But, he's already 29 and I think what you see is what you get. If the team can get good value for him (I'm talking picks and prospects), they should pull the trigger.Yup. He's been a good soldier, but, he is what he is. He's a guy that fairly easily replaced with a cheap UFA in the summer. Won't get much more than a 2nd round pick or so in return, but, that's still good a nice addition for someone the Leafs added for nothing. There's definitely value in a 2nd round pick, even a late one. Would be fantastic if the Leafs hang on to their pick and end up with two or three 2nd rounders. I'd be really tempted to just hang on to all picks instead of moving up.In a draft like this one, yeah. Sure, some of these guys aren't going to amount to anything but there are a handful of guys who are going to be drafting late in the 1st round who would be lottery picks last year. That only helps the 2nd round by pushing some talented guys back...and a lot of guys who might be overlooked because of their comparables. And as Anthony Petrielli mentioned in his Leafs Notebook, maybe this is a draft the Leafs can try to take advantage of OHL players with a couple guys in management (Dubas and Hunter) who would have in depth knowledge of the league and a good portion of the players still eligible.

While I'd prefer picks in this year's draft, if a team were to offer a 2016 1st rounder for both of them, I'd be inclined to accept.
Quote from: Boston Leaf on February 03, 2015, 06:48:30 PMwe need to find an idiot like George McPhee when he traded Filip Forsberg from Washington to Nashville for Martin Erat..Don't get me wrong, that was a hilariously bad trade but Santorelli is not equivalent to Martin Erat. Erat has 536 career points. Santorelli has 113. I'm sure we might pull a 2nd round pick or one of those 3rd + 5th kind of trades but we aren't getting a top prospect or 1st round pick for him. Not even from McPhee.

@NYP_Brooksie Told no progress between Leafs and Santorelli toward contract extension, all but certain to be shopped as rental. Yes, #NYR are interested.
