Buyouts

Evening chaps.

Just wondering if we are likely to make use of the compliance buyouts this summer or perhaps the accelerated buyout now?

Would we bite the bullet and get rid of Phaneuf to clear salary space or would we be more likely to seek a trade if necessary?

How's jolly old England?

I don't see Phaneuf going anywhere. Maybe JML buyout if he has a bad showing this season?

No chance on the accelerated buyout or on buying out Phaneuf. Maybe Komisarek or JML in the summer, but no guarantees there either.

It's marvelous but a tad cold (actually it's flipping freezing but to you guys it would be mild for this time of year so no sympathy expected!)

The reason I specifically mentioned Phaneuf is purely due to the big contract and with Burke having vacated the seat.  I guess Komi would be most likely to go. We've also got to find money for Lupul along with the cap reduction unless we decide to get some assets for him at the trade deadline.

But the accelerated buyout doesn't clear cap space for this season. It's only accelerated because Gomez and Redden were being barred from providing their services. What's the point of leaving a hole in our lineup with dead cap space?

Any GM worth a grain of salt would exhaust all other options before a buyout, especially the accelerated one.

If the team is going to get rid of its best defenseman, it'll be through a trade, not a buyout.

Who was talking about Gunnarsson? ;)

This is a sad, sad team if Gunnarsson is our best defenseman. Our most well-rounded, yes. Our best? I still have to give that to Phaneuf.

No way do you buy out Phaneuf. He is too valuable. You buy out contracts you cannot move and they are not contibuting value wise. Komiserik and Connoly for example.
