Former Leafs: Ex-Files / Carl Gunnarsson

Has he played any games for St Louis yet?  I can't see any stats on tsn or hockeydb and he isn't listed as injured on the site.  It would be funny if our number 2 defense man is a healthy scratch on a good team.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Is Nonis good enough?
« on: January 10, 2013, 08:36:19 PM »
After having some time to think about the GM change, I feel it is a step down in talent.  Here is a list of Burke's moves as leafs GM:
http://www.tsn.ca/toronto/story/?id=413162
as you can see, sometimes he might have overpaid; but he was always adding talented players.  This trend was reflected in his record with other teams when he drafted Chris Pronger, the sedins, signing niedermeyer, trading for Pronger and etc.

This is the list of Nonis's moves with Vancouver:
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2013/01/10/nonis_history_of_moves_vancouver_canucks/
as you can see, he didn't do much.  The reason most people think he was a good gm was because of Luongo trade. However this trade would not have been seen as a slam dunk if Bertuzzi's career didn't go down the toilet.  I don't think you should judge a GM based on one good trade and thats the point.  Other then that he didn't do much.  He doesn't have the track record of trading for talent or signing UFA's that burke does.

I know there wasn't any other GM free right before the season, but still I don't think Nonis is that good based on his record nor will he do better then Burke did.

Leafs Media Rumours / Shane Doan

It was just said on TSN.ca that he will be testing free agent waters on July 1 due to ownership instability.  Since burke said he wants size and doesn't want long term contracts (which rule out the best UFA's) maybe this guy is one he can get on a 2 or 3 year deal. I think between 2-3 million should be enough and he is physical and can play within the top 6.  If you bury Armstrong in the minors this guy would replace him.  He could also provide some leadership.  What does the Leaf Nation think?

Former Leafs: Ex-Files / This List Needs Raycroft

The link shows the one hit wonder goaltenders of yesteryear.  Raycroft was a notable goalie missing.  I think everyone here would agree Raycroft only had one good season and one average season with "37 wins".

Former Leafs: Ex-Files / Wellwood
« on: October 23, 2011, 12:05:27 PM »
The former OHL leading scorer, who the leafs gave away for nothing is off to a great start with the Jets.  He presently has 3 goals 2 assists for 5 points total and is playing on a scoring line.  I feel Vancouver and the Sharks were not using him properly by putting him on the 3rd line.  All Wellwood can contribute is offense so he needs to be on a scoring line.

P.S. Feel free to respond with any jokes about cheeseburgers or weight gain.
