General Rumours & Speculation / Re: Armchair GM Thread 2020-2021

Hyman- Matthews - Nylander
Mikheyev- Tavares- Arvidsson
Johnsson- Kerfoot- Anderson
Engvall- Spezza- Barbanov

Agostino
Brooks

Rielly- Ellis
Muzzin- Liljegren
Sandin- Holl

Marincin

I.....kinda like it...

Marincin would be a decent goalie.

If that were true, Edmonton would never have let him go  ;)

Ok so we flip Marner to Nashville for Ellis and Arvidsson; you get the top RHD spot filled and a top 6 winger for essentially the same cap hit as Marner alone.

Next we send Kapanen to Columbus for Anderson(+?) and sign Anderson for slightly under Kapanen's cap hit x 4 years (ideally; will settle for 3).

That leaves us with a spot for Mikheyev with nearly 3 million cap space available and Dermott, with the backend all filled out, can be shopped for picks/prospects.

Crazy? Unrealistic? Stupid? All three?

I'd also like to echo the Svehla sentiments. He was an absolute rock on the back end. Nasty and physical. And a 40-point player. Shame he didn't play longer...

Kaberle   Svehla
Markov   Yuskevich
Mc Cabe  Stralman

Oh yea, love to see that back end...  that sounds dirty

Mikael Renberg

Renberg was such a great fit on that line. His work around the boards and in the corners was a sight to behold.

I remember Cherry blasting him for being a floater (and that might have been the last time I voluntarily watched a full Cherry segment).

I am now fully expecting a Leafs win....which, of course, means:

Sharks 6  Leafs 1

Ok Blue Jays Talk / Re: Blue Jays Hot Stove Thread

Another ranking of the Jays' prospects. Fun to see that behind Jansen and McGuire the Jays have a couple of well regarded young catchers in the system who are expected to be in the bigs in the next few years.

Not only that but the return on Stroman (2 top ten prospects) combined with the signing of Ryu is looking pretty nice right now...

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Forum database error

I love this place.

Also, they should have traded the database at the deadline for literally anything they could get.  A bag of abacuses.

Trading the database for literally anything is basically telling everyone you're giving up on the network. That's not what's going on here.

This site will never make it to reddit with that attitude.

I don't want to jsut make it to reddit. I want to the site to compete for the top spot on Google on a consistent basis.

Wait.  Are we actually arguing over this now?

I don't know. I just kind of leaned into it.

I'm ready for Round Two.  Hit me with your best code.

- #Barrie + 4th + 3rd = nothing for the next three years

Man, I have no idea what to expect anymore. So based on that, I say Keefe gets two points, Matthews gets four rebounds and Clifford gets  ejected on a soft technical foul.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Re: Tyson Barrie Conundrum
« on: February 24, 2020, 05:25:37 PM »
Moved him for "just about anything?" A team in a win-now situation sitting in the thick of a playoff race/spot should trade who, right now, is their #1 defenceman for just about anything? Absolute silliness.

And as for your other silly comment; even ignoring the fact that the Leafs received a full year of Barrie at a minimal cap hit, a key part of the trade, you're left with 2 years of Kadri @ 4.5 million (age 30, 31) for 3 years of Kerfoot @ 3.5 million (age 26, 27, 28). I'm not sure that's as unsuccessful as you think it is.

"Maybe" a pick? I'm not so sure I'd even take Manson over Dermott straight up...

Why do I approach each Leaf game with such immense feelings of dread and impending doom? I watched all through the mid-80's...I watched every game under Mike Murphy...I watched Kessel play with star centre John Mitchell...

We were supposed to be good now. It's not fair. It's not fair at all. This was our time now. This was supposed to be our time!

I don't get why the team has dropped to a two line team... Spread it out and put Willy back where he's best:

Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Korshkov-Tavares-Nylander
Engvall-Kerfoot-Kapanen
Clifford-Spezza-Timashov

Yea, these top heavy tweaks have been a little puzzling to me. That 3rd line looked a lot better with Kerfoot down the middle. I wouldn't hate seeing Clifford taking Korshkov's spot (or Hyman's) on your line combos there but that certainly looks the most balanced.
