Leafs season starts tomorrow night!!

My severe doubts about the plan to rid ourselves of Hyman has already  started to rear it's ugly head. Not only do the Oilers look much better with his presence and drive on their team , ours has looked worse without.  :-X :'(

Here we go again! ....Starts tomorrow night... 56 game season....Leafs in an All-Canadian Division.

With the excitement building to get a look at all the new additions to the Leafs, and the Leafs being part of the realigned Canadian division for this season, there is a lot to look forward to. But when is this thing going to get rolling ?

Without even an official start date to go on, I?m sure I?m not the only one getting anxious for Leafs hockey to begin. (I can only watch so many reruns from last season).

With that in mind, I?m wondering what everyone thinks of all these new additions. I?m particularly interested in seeing which of new additions could really surprise everyone and stand out from the pack.

Who will exceed expectations the most as a Leaf? (I?m not asking who will end up with the most points, but who will be the biggest surprise by being much better than anyone expected)

The 2019-20 NHL season promises to be an extremely exciting one for the Leafs and Leaf Fans.

The initial goal was to start posting these starting with Game 1 of the regular season, but last nights final exhibition tilt with the Red Wings was such a blast, I decided to start a little early.

Sad to see him go. The offence will be missed.  Particularly that presence around the opposing team's goal crease. He was so proficient at putting those ones away for the Leafs.

With the exhibition season getting underway tomorrow, I thought I'd get this years Game in Six thread all set up and ready for action.

As I predicted months ago, Mike Babcock is now the coach of our Toronto Maple Leafs!

Here is an e-mail sent to Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune after an article he published concerning a name change for the Washington Redskins.

Dear Mr. Page...

I agree with our Native American population. I am highly insulted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins. One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as fine warriors, but nay, nay.

We must be not to offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward.

Let's ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians. If your  shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns.

The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of militant Blacks from the 60's alive.

Gone. It's offensive to us white folk.

The New York Yankees offend the Southern population. Do you see a team named for the Confederacy?

No! There is no room for any reference to that tragic war that cost this country so many young men's lives.

I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion among our sports team names.

Totally inappropriate to have the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres.

Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged. We are talking about the horrible Oakland Raiders, the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Pirates!

Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong  message to our children. The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible fighting or even spending habits. Wrong message to our children.

The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a growing childhood epidemic.

Wrong message to our children.

The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates. Wrong message to our children.

The Milwaukee Brewers. Well that goes without saying. Wrong message to our children.

So, there you go. We need to support any legislation that comes out to rectify this travesty, because the government will likely become involved with this issue,  as they should. Just the kind of thing the do-nothing Congress loves.

As a diehard Oregon State fan, my wife and I, with all of this in mind, suggest it might also make some sense to change the name of the Oregon State women's athletic teams to something other than "the Beavers (especially when they play  Southern California.  Do we really want the Trojans sticking it to the Beavers???)

I always love your articles and I generally agree with them.

As for the Redskins name I would suggest they change the name to the "Foreskins" to better represent their community, paying tribute to the dick  heads in Congress

I think most fans are of the opinion that the goaltending 'showdown' is officially over. This article just add more ammunition to that argument...

I figured we needed a dedicated thread for Leo. (if there isn't one already)

I know it's early, but something tells me we're going to be doing a lot of Komarov 'discussing' this season. Besides the fact that he looks like he's actually gotten better since his first stop over in Toronto, he's also a real 'shift disturber', and he's entertaining on the ice as well. He's also a pretty interesting guy outside of hockey too. Apparently the Estonian native speaks 6 or 7 different languages.

What I like about him most is that grit and energy he brings to every single game he plays, and at the level we don't see from too many players in the game today.

Will he be an impact player this season?

My guess is that he will, but the jury's still out, I guess. Should be fun to watch, and hopefully he can add some more scoring to his repertoire this year.

I think he'll turn out to be the best off season moves Nonis made this past summer.
