Senators are getting fined their first round pick in either 2024/2025/2026 for failing to disclose Dadonov's No Trade list to Vegas when they traded him last year.

All Sports But Hockey / Canadian Open
June 12, 2023, 09:49:00 AM
Nick Taylor broke a 69-drought on a Canadian winning the RBC Open.  Pretty cool way to win too with a 72 foot putt for eagle on the last playoff hole.

Adam Hadwin apparently got tackled by security trying to go celebrate with him.

Main Leafs Hockey Talk / Matthews suspended 2 games
March 14, 2022, 09:30:27 AM
I'm perfectly content with Matthews getting a game for that.

Just for fun though there was a game last year where Weber crosschecked Simmons in the head.  He got a 5K fine.  Joel Edmondson did it later in the game and got nothing.

Spin the wheel.

https://vocm.com/2021/10/27/growlers-kicked-out-of-mile-one/

St. John's city council voted to suspend the Growlers from the arena.  MLSE is looking to relocate the team to Toronto at least temporarily.

After doing a bit more reading on this one it seems like this might be a bit of small town council puffing up feathers because the owner of the Growlers threatened to build his own arena.

Quote"They pass Nick Ritchie. He's 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds. Only three players scored more than this guy. Anaheim picked him up. [GM] Bob Murray picked him. He was the executive of the year. [Ritchie] is tough. He can score. He has beautiful hands.

Marlies & Prospect Talk / Rodion Amirov signs ELC
April 15, 2021, 09:48:29 AM
He's coming.  Amirov signs his 3-year ELC.

https://www.nhl.com/mapleleafs/news/maple-leafs-sign-rodion-amirov/c-323672640

Although is this Dubas indicating Amirov is going back to Russia next year or just platitudes?

Quote"We also look forward to continuing to work with Ufa with his development next season. Ufa has done an excellent job guiding Rodion's development as a player to date and we are excited to work very closely with them through the summer and into the future."

Game Notes
TOR
• Nothing much to talk about.   Mike Babcock will not be behind the Leafs bench after starting the year 9-10-4 and the team currently on a 6-game winless streak.  Babcock finishes his Toronto tenure with a 173-133-45 regular season record (average 40-31-11 82-game record).
• Sheldon Keefe, come on up.  Sheldon continues his partnership with Kyle Dubas following his from Sault St. Marie, to the Marlies and now steps behind the bench as the 31st coach in Toronto Maple Leafs history.    Keefe has been the head coach of the Marlies for the last 4+ seasons, compiling a record of 200-89-31.  He most notably won the Calder Cup in 2017-2018.
• Graduates of the Sheldon Keefe Marlies include: William Nylander, Andreas Johnsson, Kasperi Kapanen, Travis Dermott, Justin Holl, Zach Hyman, Frederik Gauthier, Nic Petan, Trevor Moore, Martin Marincin, Kasimir Kaskuo and Dmytro Timashov
• Auston Matthews returns home.  Babcock and Matthews didn't seem to see eye to eye so this will be a big game for him to show he can take it to the next level
• Frederik Anderson is expected to start (2.76 GAA .912 SV%)

ARI
• Arizona is coming off back to back 3-0 shutouts against Calgary and the LA Kings
• Arizona sits 2nd in the Pacific division and is tied for the 3rd best record in the Western Conference
• Arizona boasts the stingiest defines in the league giving up only 49 goals in 22 games (32 fewer than the Leafs)
• Darcy Kuemper is expected to start (1.85 GAA .937 SV%)

•Mitch Marner - Ankle - Injured Reserve
•Trevor Moore - Shoulder - Injured Reserve

2017 1st round pick
2018 2nd round pick
Prospect Zach Sanford (2013 2nd round pick)

Some other stuff being put together but Washington really trying to win a Cup I guess.  Hanzal went for more.  That trade is still insane to me.

Ignoring that they left out the much better debate of ranking players, the NHL has released their list of the official top 100 players.

Mats Sundin, Borje Salming, Darryl Sittler, Johnny Bower, Syl Apps, King Clancy, Charlie Conacher, Tim Horton, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Ted Kennedy, Frank Mahovlich, Joe Niewendyk*, Ron Francis*, Mike Gartner*, Brian Leetch*, Eric Lindros*, (Brendan Shanahan)*

Notable exclusions:

Mark Recchi - 12th in all time scoring
Joe Thornton - 992 assists
Doug Gilmour - 18th in all time scoring
Dale Hawerchuk - 19th in all time scoring, 13th in PPG

Of the current NHL players: Jagr, Ovechkin, Crosby, Toews, Kane and Keith

Toronto Blue Jays / Baseballs Hit King
June 17, 2016, 12:31:04 AM
Ichiro got hit #4257 of his career when you combine his Japan totals.  It's significant because it has him pass Pete Rose.

I love that Ichiro has had an unbelieavable career (and is having a great year so far) but this desperate attempt from the media/baseball to try and equate hits in the Japanese league to hits in Major league baseball is absurd.

Pete Rose is a jerk, he cheated on the game, but trying to claim that Ichiro is the all-time hits leader when he is sitting 1300 hits behind Pete Rose's MLB career is downright silly.  If this metric was going to be used by Major League baseball and the press, we would be talking about home run champion Sadaharu Oh instead of Babe Ruth/Mickey Mantle/Barry Bonds.

General NHL News & Views / Jaromir Jagr
February 21, 2016, 06:38:43 AM
I guess we were talking about him in the general NHL thread.  I think he deserves his own thread now that this beautiful man has passed Brett Hull for 3rd all time in NHL goal scoring.

He scored #741 and #742 against the Jets last night.
http://md-akc.med.nhl.com/mp4/nhl/2016/02/21/ede96b3f-9f36-42c6-b355-d84b640c5799/1456021877850/asset_1800k.mp4

He has 20 goals and 23 assists in 56 games this year.  It's entirely conceivable that he has another 10-15 points in him this year.  That would move him into 3rd in career points and would set him up to have a good shot at top 5 in assists next year.  It's always possible that he could hit a wall but the way he is playing right now, and insulated on a good young team like the Panthers he could conceivably play another 2-3 years the way he is going.  He's a huge fitness nut so it certainly wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility.

Goals
Gretzky 894
Howe    801
Jagr      742

Assists

He's having a career year with 30 points in 36 games so far but has 90 points in 163 games.  This is going to pay off nicely for Florida though in the next few years to lock him up.
