2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Borgesi leads the entire NCAA in time on ice for the last two years, averaging 26:20 per game, actually down a tad from a remarkable 28 minutes-plus last season. He doesn’t think too much about that though, happy to contribute to the team in whatever way is most helpful.

“At the end of the day, it's whatever the staff needs for me to do to win hockey games,” he said. “I do my job, and if they need me in every single situation, then that's perfectly fine. I'm going to do that and do it to the best of my abilities.”

Keefe and his staff are confident deploying Borgesi in all situations.

“He's such an elite skater and he’s able to log those minutes,” Keefe said. “Not many people can do that. He floats on the ice.”

This notion that guys like 88 need to fight and stand up to him is complete bullshit. Do what Barzal did to Marchment when he hit Schaefer. Not one Leafs fan or media would be bitching if 88 skated over and Barzal'd Gudas. The issue with 88 and others is that they do nothing, ever. They did nothing to Marchment when he hit Stolarz either.
Exactly what my buddy from the E said. You go over and chop his ankle or calf and he goes down. You take a penalty, but it shows you care. He specifically said you do not need to fight Gudas, and I think most people understand that. Its like we don't see scrums all the time in hockey. You don't have to fight, but there has to be some response instead of either nothing or asking the ref for a call.

I don't think the Leafs had a guy on the ice who could "take" Gudas. I do think there was an argument that you go 4 on 1 against him and "hockey code" wouldn't view the Leafs as the party in the wrong for jumping him like that. You go after him in the aggregate.

That being said, I think the media is just taking advantage of their opportunity to fan the flames of chaos because it gets media clicks. As much as the debate around whether Toronto is a good/bad media market....Toronto has a greater number of shit disturber reporters who cover the team. I don't think on the whole that the media coverage is unreasonably unfair to the Leafs but there are a disproportionate number of these stupid articles and podcast jockeys who just throw shit at the wall to create controversy out of smaller issues that just doesn't happen in other markets to the the same extent.

I do however think there is a big problem if on the 30th the Leafs aren't out for blood. That is not a game where a win should be the priority. That should be a game where the Leafs go out to send a message.
I guess, but it's a big market and I really don't think the mainstays of Toronto hockey media are throwing shit to the wall, except for maybe Damien Cox who's a hack. The rest is just noise. If I paid attention to everyone who had an opinion on anything (which is everyone and everything nowadays) I'd be in an insane asylum.

About to turn 24 in the summer

6'2" 200 lbs right shot forward

19G and 36 points in 35 games with Union College this year

(Prokop has been pretty disappointing in the AHL this year)

Nice to see them picking up some NCAA guys. It feels like they haven't grabbed a "cream of the crop" undrafted free agent in awhile, but free wallets are always good especially with our pick situation.

Obviously the bigger name free agents are heading to the Frozen Four and won't be free agents until the middle of April but I do hope we grab at least one of the guys who will expect to play games at the end of the season to burn a year.

The Leafs have the room and the opportunity slots to burn 1st year ELCs the way they did with Knies (drafted) and Webber (NCAA UFA) to lure someone in.

TJ Hughes seems like the one to earmark.

We do have a top track record of TJs
