mirtle: Flames trade for and sign Dennis Wideman and sign Blake Comeau.

mirtle: Flames gave up Jordan Henry and a 5th round pick for Wideman's rights. Signed him to five-year deal for $5.25-mil a year.

Wow, no wonder it got done so fast, I bet Dennis is a happy lad today.

Maybe it's just me but that seems like a lot of dough for this guy. I've never been that sold on him as a two way player. Maybe I haven't seen him enough. I realize he has put up a bunch of points but that sticker price shocked me a little.

It's a million or so more than I would have even considered for him.

The Flames should have blown up that roster years ago. I thought Feaster had more sense AND courage to stand up to ownership. Maybe the air is too thin for him in Calgary at 3,500 feet elevation.

It looks like they are making the same mistake the leafs did post lockout.

Very happy with that deal.  This prevents Murray from doing something silly in the offseason like signing Wideman to a $26.25 million dollar contract.

Seriously. The writing's been on the wall for a while (kind of like it was for the Leafs in the early JFJ years) that this is the best route...

Hmm... maybe Feaster will want a defenseman from us as well.  Say Komisarek?  For you Jay, we'll give you a Cheap price!

Maybe when he found out he was available, he googled Dennis Rodman instead of Dennis Wideman.  When he saw the 6'6", 220lbs, he thought there's the big defenseman he's been looking for.

Boy he's sure gonna be surprised to find out when he sees a white guy instead of a black guy with spray paint hair.

I was about to say that they acquired him pretty cheap...and then they paid him a gazillion dollars.

The Leafs set the price in the late winter giving $3.875m per season. Calgary decided to pay an indistinguishable defenseman from Liles  over $1M more per season.

Calgary really should study the Toronto Maple Leafs circa 2006/2007 and stop making all of the same mistakes.

I don't know why but I always have it in my head that he's German. Kitchener is close enough, I guess.
