Tyler Biggs

I haven't been following his year... Anyone heard any reports on how he's doing?

He's Miami's 6th leading scorer, which as an 18 year old is not bad.  The only down-side to that is that Miami seems to be a team that is willing to play their younger players three of their 4 top scorers are in their 1st year of college hockey. (4 of 7 if you include Biggs).

He strikes me as a guy who's going to be a 3rd liner...not that it is a bad thing.

I think he's doing well considering he is considerably younger than most rookies in his division.  I read that quite a few players on the team are graduating this year so he will be expected to take a bigger role next year and I think Miami are trying to attract more top tier prospects like Biggs.

All that being said, I'd like for him to transfer to a higher profile program or a top CHL team.

The freshmen ahead of Biggs in points on Miami are all older than him and have more playing experience. From the little I've read here and there, Biggs has seemed to get more playing time as the season has gone by, and his stats are respectable considering his situation. But really, it's hard to say anything definitive. Next season will provide a more accurate picture of his potential, especially considering he should have a good shot at playing in the WJC.

Isn't Miami a pretty highly regarded college program?

I mean it isn't terrible, but I don't think it is top five either, might be wrong though.

I just went looking through their website and they're ranked #15 this year(although I admit that may not be what you mean). They have produced some pretty decent NHL'ers.

I'm just wondering. I guess Minnesota and Boston College would be significantly higher profile in the world of college hockey(maybe BU and Wisconsin too?) but considering he'd have to sit out a year if he transferred to another school that'd probably be bad development wise.

North Dakota probably too, if he had to miss a year of college then he could play Junior I think, I mean I realize this is not going to happen.  I just remember not being terribly enthused by him going to Miami.

Seeing what he could do with a London Knights type of outfit would be better in my opinion.

Playing CHL forefits your ability to play college hockey if I'm not mistaken.

Yay?

Awesome. I get why a player would go the NCAA route to get an education and all, but I think the CHL/AHL is better for his development.

You can leave college for the OHL but you can't leave the OHL for college.  That seems kind of stupid.

You can, it's just that, if you do it mid-season, you can't play until next season - though, really, by the time you reach college age, you've put in 2 or 3 junior seasons and likely only have 1 or 2 left, so, why wouldn't you stick it out and go to college after if you don't get drafted/signed?

It's because in their view, the NCAA considers junior hockey as 'professional'. Once you play in the CHL, you forfeit any NCAA eligibility. Go figure.

IMO, 99% chance he ends up with the Marlies, not the Generals.

$$

Didn't D'Amigo leave NCAA hockey after one year?  When he failed to make the Leafs, he went to the Marlies.  He struggled badly, and midway through the season they sent him to the Kitchener Rangers to get his confidence back.

I believe that the Leafs control whether he plays in the AHL or the CHL.  Based on D'Amigo, I am betting they send him to the Generals.

That really only stands because no one has challenged it. If they did, that rule would get overthrown fairly swiftly.
