The Official TV Thread

Got to have a TV thread! 8)

By word of mouth and the original tv thread I heard a lot of rave reviews for Breaking Bad. I finally got around to watching it yesterday. I'm only two episodes in but those two episodes were fantastic.

With three seasons ready to go on the media player I will probably blast through this show in the next few weeks.

Next show I'm going to check out after Breaking Bad is going to be the Wire.

Caught some of a british sitcom named The Inbetweeners. Nothing revolutionary, 4 high school students trying to get laid, but pretty good at times.

Has anyone else watched Combat Hospital yet? I've watched the 1st 2 episodes so far and have been impressed.

I've liked it OK, only caught a couple episodes so far, but my goodness could they have chosen a more bland title for that show?!?

"Combat Hospital", Tuesdays at 10, right after "Handsome Doctor" and before "Troubled Cops".

Apparently, the working title was "The Hot Zone". I'll take the current title.

For what it is, it's pretty damn god.

Jay is one of the best characters on TV.

I agree, there's something that's pretty great about how authentic it sounds. They talk like actual high school kids, albeit very funny ones, as opposed to adults writing for high school kids.

As you say, Jay is pretty hilarious even if I don't understand half of the words he uses for, let's say, women.

I had to do quite a lot of "translating" ;D for my wife when I watched it again with her.  As you mentioned, the authenticity of their interactions are it's major selling point, I remember speaking to friends just like that at that age, you had never really seen it portrayed with the same level of rawness on tv.

They just came out with the Emmy nominations and I have to say I'm pretty pleasantly surprised.

Emmy nominations

Nice to see Justified getting some recognition for the terrific season they had. Same with Peter Dinklage on Game of Thrones, Louis CK for Louie and Idris Elba getting a couple nods. Shame there was no such love for Sons of Anarchy, Nick Offerman or Archer though.

Surprised Big Bang Theory got nominated over Community. I loved BBT, but this season was very mediocre.

It's a safer pick than Community - while this season was pretty mediocre, it still brought in better ratings than pretty much every other sitcom. It almost had to get a nomination.

Yeah, I guess. But they already had all the usual suspects in The Office, 30 Rock, Glee, and Modern Family (Glee was also had a not-so-great season, and while I haven't watched the Office in years I haven't heard that many good things). I thought they could have replaced one of those "safe" picks with a show that still pretty popular and much funnier (in my opinion of course).

I'm guessing they just had the one spot for a show that doesn't do very well in the ratings but is a critical success and they gave it to Parks and Rec.

That would make sense. I thought Parks and Rec. had higher ratings than it did.
