Reportedly a 6-year deal worth $33mil, so a $5.5mil cap hit.

All things considered, that's a pretty amazing deal. It's a solid rate for a potential perennial 30+ goal scorer whose the face of the franchise, and the fact that he signed this deal for that long and at that rate with the Islanders makes it even better.

I'd wait until he actually has a 30 goal season before I started throwing out the term "perennial 30+ goal scorer" (even a potential one), but, it's a pretty solid deal for Tavares, even if he doesn't progress much from where he is right now.

Come on.  He was 1 shy his second year, and the team around him is getting better.  If he doesn't get hurt he's a slamdunk to score 30 a year.  I'd say it's a helluva deal for NYI, and good for them.

Obviously, I don't agree. I'm not saying he'll never hit 30, I just don't think it'll be something he does on a yearly basis.

I think the potential is there to score more than 30. Pair Tavares with St.Louis, it wouldn't hurt.

It's a good deal for Tavares and the Islanders.

I think this is a pretty darn good deal for the Isles.

I can't believe Buffalo is about to give Myers a deal whose cap hit is the same as Tavares'.

Hey, a similar cap hit to our very own perennial 30+ goal scorer.  :P

A good deal I think. Tavares should be an 80 point player very soon.

If by very soon you mean this year! I really don't think it's out of the question.

Interesting comp for Grabo, I think. If Grabs has another 30 goal, 60+ point season hes probably looking at a contract in a similar ballpark.

I think you're right, which worries me a bit. Do the Leafs keep Grabbo at that? I can't predict that, as in my opinion it's a bit much for a 2nd line center, if you eventually want to have a top liner making a million or so more than that.

I'm not saying that Grabbo wouldn't be worth that, only that things would get tight trying to fit all of them in under the cap, especially if Kulemin gets better as we all think he will. It would come in around 30-40 million for your top two lines, which is a lot.

Great news for Islander fans, :D who can now breathe a sigh of relief upon news of Tavares' signing.  Hopefully, there is more good news to come from the Islanders & Tavares this coming season.  GO ISLES!!
