Tampa trades everything for Tanner Jeannot

I get why they did that but does anyone else think that seems like a lot? Maybe they think Jeannot can be another Hagel?

I know it's become Tampa's MO to make trades that seem insane to everyone else but it eventually works out, and this might end up being the same, but I'm just surprised they didn't use these assets on a defenceman instead.

I mean, Hedman's most frequent partner this season has been Zach Bogosian. You'd think they'd find a way to change that.

Completely ou of left field and I suppose that is completely on brand for them come the trade deadline these past few years. But I agree that it definitely feels like the wrong position, albeit the right type of player for the playoffs.

It's not a trade that I love from Tampa's perspective but Jeannot is a young guy and not a rental so I think it looks better from a long term perspective than the recent Boston or NYR deals. Especially because the 1st is a ways out.

Very much in Tampa's wheelhouse to give up this much for a 3rd liner. Crazy amount for Jeannot, unless they think that shooting percentage bender he had last season was meaningful.

Allegedly there were other teams offer 2 firsts, so the cost paid here is the to ensure Tampa gets their man.

When it comes time for them to rebuild (probably in 3 years or less), they'll be able to sell off some of their middle depth, or the last standing core members at a premium by virtue of their Cup wins and restock the cupboards relatively quickly.

Hoping this is the beginning of the end of Tampa and media are ripping them to shreds after they lose handily to the Leafs in round 1

Really hard to read this one.  At minimum he's a solid bottom 6, probably 3rd liner over 4th liner.  Last year he was a 20 goal scorer but

22/23 - 5 goals in 56 NHL games
21/22 - 24 goals in 81 NHL games
20/21 - 18 goals in 33 NHL + AHL + ECHL games
19/20 - 9 goals in 60 AHL + ECHL games
18/19 - 7 goals in 37 AHL games
17/18 - 40 goals in 72 WHL games
14-17 - 37 goals in 195 WHL games

So he has one big goal scoring season as a 20 year old WHL player, one 20 goal season as an NHL player and scoring pace aside hasn't really shown to be a consistent goal scorer.  He's still a fantastic pest and that's really valuable but the price they paid is for a guy who is a bit more than just a pest IMO.  That being said, Tampa doesn't really need goal scoring because their top 6 does that still.  Their grind you down bottom 6 makes it easier for everyone else to score and Jeannot helps that a lot.
