Rogers will have a 75% stake in MLSE

I think this is bad

One sliver of positive hope I have from this is maybe, just maybe, Rogers having full control vs. splitting with Bell might mean there's a better chance of a single source broadcast that shows all Leafs games one day.

This has to be good in terms of board agreement no?  There were always rumblings that there was a split between Rogers and Bell execs on direction etc.  I'd rather have 1 major decision maker

But from the company that is worse at it?

Normally yes, but now it's just Ed Rogers, unfiltered.

At least there's a single entity to blame. No more excuses of the "the board couldn't agree!"  I guess Tannenbaum is still kicking around but he has no say at 25%

Deal includes 20 year broadcasting rights of some Leafs games on TSN

thank God. My first fear was we have to watch SN all the time

Ah, well, nevermind then. Just all bad.

I don't love everyone in Leafs media but having TSN provides another set of media voices - they're not all bad at TSN.

For me, the years of Al Strachan, Steve Simmons and Damien Cox were like the dark ages of Leafs media history. I wasn't a big fan of any of them.

Yeah, this is it.  The biggest evil was chosen here.

He's had a spotty history with the Jays.  He wanted to punt Ujiri from the Raptors.  He was dead set against a WNBA team coming to the city.

Not the least bit confident him serving at the helm now will prove to be beneficial.

They swung and missed on Ohtani, but all is forgiven if they pony up and use their communications monopoly to lever Connor McDavid to the Leafs.

Do we trust Rogers to be that person.  TSN consistently mops the floor with them in coverage

I agree TSN is generally better but I mean I'd sacrifice quality for convenience at this point. I pretty much check out of most non-playing time coverage these days anyway.

TSNs broadcast with Miller and Johnson are light-years head of SN. Even their intermissions are much better.

I kind of despise both companies so I think it sucks. I wish someone else was getting involved. I think the  Ontario teacher's pension plan really screwed up when they sold to these monopoly partners. $1.32B for 80% in 2012. According to this sale that 80% would be worth $7B today.

The upside of this is we now have an ownership group instead of an ownership by committee.

This is easily the best stretch of seasons by the Leafs in team history all done with no playoff success so it's not like we are destabilizing something that has been working.

Over the last decade the Jays have spent money pretty consistently outside of a fairly quick rebuild/retool.

Rogers put a lot of money into Skydome removations although despite generally positive reviews I think they have actually been pretty soulless upgrades that promote everything except baseball.  The home plate seats are a monolith to corporations (TD).  You can privately rent out the beer seating areas for corporate functions.  Prices escalated pretty significantly for tickets too.  With the reputation of Leafs games already I do t see any of that boding well for can access to Leafs games.
