Palmieri and Zajac to NYI

https://twitter.com/NYIslanders/status/1379945067058765824?s=19

The Devils want to get bad. Isles really going for it here.

Edit: This trade seems like hot garbage for the Devils.

Greer is 24 with 27 NHL games, Jobst 27 with 0.. those are just contracts.

Good deal for the Isles.

Should be noted that both Zajac and Palmieri aren?t having great years and are both pending UFAs on the wrong side of 30. Decent deal for the Isles, but probably pretty close to fair value.

A 1st for Palmieri seems decent, even if those draft picks might be a little undervalued. I don't think I saw many people thinking he would get that. Then a 4th for Zajac which seems about right. Feels like a fair deal for both sides to me.

Also, it?s a late 1st in weak and unpredictable draft, with a significant portions of the top prospects having barely played in the last year (with many having not played at all). Their value this year is harder to measure than in others.

It's basically unquantifiable leaning toward little better than 2nd or 3rd rounders. The retention is important. I'd give up a 1st in this rando draft for Hall and retention easily.

I?ll admit that I haven?t watched a single second of Hall this season, but I?m trying to understand how he?s worth a first round pick? 2 goals. I don?t know how you overlook that. And a decline pattern to his numbers the last few years.

Honestly, what am I missing?

2.3 shooting percentage and he still has 19 points on a team with 2 shooters with more than 5 goals.  His career shooting percentage is 10% that would put him at 9 goals instead of 2.  Even if you exclude his 39 goal season that looks more like a fluke for him he's a career 9.5% shooter

I don't think he's worth anything more than a late 1st at this point either but it's partially reputation from his best season and the thought that you are acquiring non-Buffalo Hall.

Probably just putting too much emphasis on his season with the Sabres, where the entire team is a literal dumpster fire. A lot of his underlying stats blow virtually every other Buffalo player out of the water and make it very clear that the team is holding him back.

And while he obviously isn't playing at the same level as when he won the Hart last season was probably better for him than the numbers show. He scored at a 65-point pace playing with two teams that both struggled to score. With New Jersey he scored at a 68 point pace and the teams highest scorer Kyle Palmieri (who of course was just traded for a 1st rounder) scored at a 56 point pace. In Arizona he scored at a 63 point pace and the teams highest scorer was at a 52 point pace.

Hall is more of a playmaker than a scorer. This is focused on the Leafs' high danger chance generators (shooters on the Y, passers on the X) and Hall shows up as the little Sabres logo standing alone. It's really hard to put up points if your linemates are other Buffalo Sabres.

Gotta believe the beard rule stopped Thornton from signing alongside Marleau, probably for 6M, so yay!
