TSN has learned Claude Noel has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the Winnipeg Jets. Assistant, Perry Pearn also let go. #TSN
 
No surprise. If that guy coached in Toronto he would have been out the door in 3 weeks. In the times I paid attention to what was going on in Winnipeg he seemed worse than Wilson during his press conferences in terms of attitude and snark.
 
Really happy for Maurice and not just because he's from my hometown. Really great guy from everything I've seen and read. Could listen to him talk hockey for hours. Now that they're in the West I can hope he has success.
 
Noel moved Byfuglien from defence to forward for the first time since being traded to Winnipeg last night.  Buff apparently always preferred defence and goals for isn't really the Jets problem right now. I wonder if that was the last straw.

They lost 5 prior to this, but are still only 5 points back of Toronto (Leafs have a game in hand). With Noel I didn't think they had a chance of passing us, now though who knows.
 
I suppose the folk in Winnipeg are coming around to the idea that running a NHL team isn't exactly the same as a AHL one.

The difference between the two teams comes down to 2 games that the Jets lost in regulation compared to 2 games the Leafs won in a shootout. They have the same number of ROWs. They're actually only 4 points back.
 
But ... But Noel didn't even get three full seasons!  Cox will be beside himself with rage.
 
Maurice always strikes me as an interesting coach.  I don't think he has every really had a great lineup.  Some of those early 2000s Carolina teams certainly weren't bad with Francis, Battaglia, but their defense was kind of mediocre and they relied on Arturs Irbe in net.
