No bodychecking will be allowed in upcoming OHL season

So, how's this going to work?

Like Women's hockey, I assume. If you mean with regards to prospect evaluation my guess is most teams generally know with a 17 year old if he's a physical player.

I don't really get the idea behind this assuming it's strictly a covid measure. You're just as likely to spread it lining up against somebody for a face-off. Not to mention sitting on the bench or just being in the lockerroom. This hardly seems like it'll be effective. Wonder if it's just part of negotiations between the league and the government.

This is just decision making by people who quite frankly are ignorant to science.  There is no sound argument for banning bodychecking in a league where 90% of the game is guys fighting along the boards where far more direct contact takes place.

Yeah banning bodychecks doesn't ban physical contact. This will do nothing except put immense pressure on the league/refs to enforce it.

It's silly, and hopefully they reconsider.

They won't. If those leagues want to open, they'll have to abide by the "scientific" guidelines. Not a big deal because in the grand scheme of things, not playing will hurt more then not having bodychecking.

It doesn?t help that Lisa McLeod is the Sports minister and she is profoundly incompetent.

Lisa MacLeod yesterday:

No bodychecking in the OHL this season, period. This is a settled matter per our healthcare policy and is not up for debate.

Doug Ford today:

"To date no decisions have been made. I would like to see the OHL return as normal as possible with body checking."
