NHL Gamecenter Live

I subscribed to NHL Gamecenter Live last year.  I live in Vancouver and I wanted a way to watch the Buds during the week, and catch some away games as well.

Pros: The quality is excellent, in terms of HD and streaming. If you have a question or problem they respond to you immediately (at least in my experience) via email --- like within 10 minutes!

Cons: I will not renew for next year because of their stupid blackout rules.  Basically the game is blacked out on Gamecenter Live if it's being shown nationally on TSN or CBC.  The kicker came midway through the season when CBC decided to show a Habs game instead of the Leafs game, and then the Leafs game was still blacked out on Gamecenter.  I sent an email wondering what was going on, and they promptly responded saying it was out of their hands, CBC had the rights to the game and they made a gametime decision to show the Habs instead.

I'm sorry, but if I pay good money for the service (to watch any and/or all NHL games online in HD), I had better be able to do it.  I am not sure who is the grandmaster idiot driving the protectionist blackout rules, but how shortsighted!  If I may make a comparison to the NFL, if someone buys NFL Sunday Ticket, they can watch every NFL game.  So why can't I do the same for the NHL?  And look at all the NFL fans scattered all over North America - NFL fandom is not driven by proximity.

Does that answer your question?

Yeah, thanks.

When you tried to watch a game that was from the night before was it possible to watch it without knowing the score? From the examples they have on their website it looks like you have to go to the boxscore of the game and click on the "watch full game" button which kind of sucks. I want to be able to watch a game 24 hrs later and not know who will win.

On the other hand, I dig the NHL Gamecenter Live iPhone app.  No video, but you can stream the radio broadcast of any game, and you can choose which team's feed to listen to.

You can watch games without knowing the score, either live or from previous days.  I've done it.

Awesome. Sounds like it is worth it. I basically want it to just watch Leaf games since I am outside Canada and the games come on at wacky times for me here.  As long as I can watch a game that finished 12 hrs ago and not know the score I think I will get it. Thanks for the help!

I moved to Australia in January and didn't miss a single Leafs game with Gamecenter Live.

So you are in the same Time Zone as me roughly. I'm in China. I want to be able to come home from work and maybe watch the game that was played that morning. But there has to be a way for me to get to the archived game page without seeing the score on NHL.com. I think that will be the tough part!

Don't go through the NHL.com main site.  Google "NHL Gamecenter Live" and the first result should be: https://gamecenter.nhl.com/nhlgc/secure/gclsignup

I don't think you can do it now, but during the season you can go to that page and sign in, and it will show the games along the top, with I think the ability to click back a few days as well, and it has an option to have scores "on" or "off" so that it won't show the scores.  I turned it off the first time and it was off every other time I signed in to it.  And if it's not off when you start, just put your hand over most of the screen except that part until you turn them off.
