Minor Ex-Leaf News

I've seen no sign of Matt Benning D who played in the top pair for the Marlies Calder Cup run
He played with a back injury so that may have affected his ability to sign a new contract

Don't look now but Fraser Minten is 7pts in 7 games playing 2C for the Bruins. So frustrating.
Yeah it's frustrating. I was really hoping that the Leafs would do something sneaky good last trade deadline like the Bruins did the year before, but just didn't. That was my frustration. I am happier now with the management team because it looks like they have a plan. Doesn't mean that it will result in wins, or that they won't make mistakes, but at least it feels professional.

I was thinking about our situation.
The Leafs have so many puck movers/offensive dmen
McCabe is sort of half and half - capable of defense.
The rest are not very 'defensive' dmen
Rifai could play that role but he's on the left side where we already have McCabe, Rielly & OEL

I was a little taken with a depth dman we had a couple of years ago: Lagesson. He wasn't a bone crusher but +5 over 30GP. He seemed like an ok 7/8 dman. I thought he was left handed but wanted to check. Anaheim took him when the Leafs waived him. He signed as a UFA with Detroit. Unfortunately, he's largely been relegated to the Wings AHL team. Last season, he led the AHL dmen in +/- +33. He's left handed so not what I was looking for. Another one who is so close to playing in the show but seems destined to remain on the outside looking in. Tough business.
