MacArthur suspended 3 games (2 reg. season games)

One plus two for MacArthur. Leafs not happy.

I can understand why the Leafs would be unhappy. I figured at most tonight's game would be it.

What did he do?  They didn't show or mention it on the TSN highlights I watched this morning.

Bump Frattin up to Grabs/Kulemin's line and go with Crabb/Bozak/Armstrong... 2/3rd of last year's "top line" in tact!  :o

Abdelkader should have received a diving penalty too but Shanny's being somewhat consistent when I think of the Boyes suspension, minor disagreement but perhaps Mac should have only received 2 games?

It was pretty weak as a hit but this is what the league wants out. I think the general simply missed his shoulder but the head is the principal point so waddaya gonna do?

Is the Shanny video out yet?

If anything this makes me fear for Lombardi all the more, guys like Mac who aren't thought of as 'dirty' players can make a mistake and next thing you know...

Yes, there was contact, yes, it was embellished, yes, it falls in line with other suspensions handed out by "B.S.", and yes, this is going to annoy me.

Well, the head was the principle point of contact on that hit, sure, but, if that's the standard, there are going to be half a dozen potentially suspension-worthy hits a night. I mean, good for Shanny for cracking down on hits to the head, but, 3 games for this and nothing for the Neil hit on Grabovski? I guess I'm a little confused.

I didn't realize Neil escaped further punishment, that's very wrong.

This has the feel of post lockout hook and hold fever...

Me too, especially the example you mention. Hopefully this is akin to the introduction of the obstruction penalties - lots at the beginning, then both the refs and players seemed to settle into an acceptable standard.
The enforcement of the rule will always be somewhat subjective and therefore capable of frustrating me to no end. I think I still have some adjusting to do as a fan.

... and possibly Shanny has some adjusting to do to. I'm okay with the 2 games I suppose but I'd like to see some consistency with these rulings sooner rather than later.

A lot of these suspensions and hits are just further confusing the referee's. The game last night was poorly officiated IMO. They called elbowing last night and the elbow couldn't have been down further, without being lodged in the players ribcage. It's like they are simply calling everything or totally missing the penalty altogether. There was a play last night where we got a call and the referee was looking behind him to make it. I don't think he actually had a good look at it and caught the tail end, but called what he thought it was, just not to miss it.

I hope all this doesn't ruin a potentially good season.

Wow, 2 games for that is...excessive.

I hate to blast the decision, because overall I'm very much for the crackdown that Shanny is orchestrating, but this feels more like "send a message" than "punish the deed".

Hopefully not having Mac for a couple games doesn't hurt too much - I hate losing any part of that line to start the season when they're the most consistent performers to date.

Abdelkader has his head sticking out like a turkey but I guess he could've avoided the hit. But according to the rule book I would argue

a) The head was not targeted
b) The head was the principle point of contact
c) Player was not in a vulnerable position
d) Check was 100% clean.

How are they going to referee Chara where his arms are close to guy's heads all the time? Maybe guys will be less careful and put themselves in a vulnerable position in the hopes that an opposing player will receive a suspension?

The onus is swinging so far on the checker that there's going to be little responsibility from the checkee.
