Lou Marsh Award

The Lou Marsh Award was announced today and it was won by both Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich and Laurence Duvernay-Tardif of the KC Chiefs.

Seems like a nice outcome but some Soccer fans are hilariously upset about it.

The Lou Marsh award winner will be announced tomorrow and it's pretty ridiculous looking over this year's candidates:

1. The Olympic Decathlon Record Setter
2. The 200m Gold Medal sprinter
3. The Olympic swimmer who won 3 medals
4. The elite tier Soccer player who's taken Canada to the top of CONCACAF qualifying
5. The hockey player who's the best player in the world by miles
6. The baseball player who just had the best season a 22 year old player has ever had

Canada is so spoiled for choice this year that the Basketball player who averaged 24/6/5 might not even get any consideration.

The Award is for Canada's best athlete. Well....#1 is the BEST Athlete in the World so while the others are noted, he should win it...easily.
And yup, we're spoiled...

That may be a little overly literal about the claims that the Decathlon makes about itself. It's the guy who's the best all-around at a bunch of Olympic events. I don't know if that automatically translates into "best athlete in the world".

That said, I'd be fine with that particular choice. I just think there are arguments either way.

Yeah I think the right person won but this was really a fantastic year for successful athletes.
