Liljegren extends 2 years 6 million (3M AAV)

On a 2-year deal this seems pretty fair. Whether or not he gets traded still feels very much in the air though, and of course likely depends on what happens tomorrow.

Far too much for a 3rd pairing guy whose game has never translated well to playoff hockey. So now they have even less cap space to try and remodel the defence.

Wish it was longer term but thrilled to see where his game is going to go. I think he passes Reilly within this contract.

Really have no idea what to think of this. I don't love Liljegren and every time he's been given a chance to prove himself at the NHL level it's been disappointing. Then again far cheaper than Sandin so that's something...

I have mixed feelings.
Treliving wanted to upgrade the RH D to be more physical. I was interested in that.

$3 mil was the low end of what some projected an arbitrator would give him so it is not a brutal/bad contract.

OTH, most young dmen take a while to hit their stride at 25 or so - particularly when they're trying to crack the roster of a perennial playoff team. Part of me wanted to see Liljegren play one more season before making a call on him. We saw him play very well when Rielly went down. So there is some hope.

I can't recall awful numbers for him. He gives them a right shot for the offense.

He may yet be a cap casualty as they try to improve the roster ...

Naturally, I hope for the best.

The MLHS analysis pointed out that he's "elite" in terms of 3rd-pairing D in the regular season.  We all know his post-season has been pretty disappointing.  But we can say that about almost everyone on this club.

If I were Berube I would prioritize drills where the D has to react to a simulated heavy forecheck.  This has been Liljegren's weakness in the playoffs ? and, again, he's not alone.

I just don't see it with Liljegren.  Not even sure if this is good value for him.  But it's a worthy gamble either way in that he progresses as a 25-year old to the benefit of the team, or the term and dollars are palatable enough for another team to take a flier on him and should be relatively easy to move if choosing that route.
