Hmm...a *little* pricier than what I hoped, but not bad.

It will look way cheaper in year 2 and on!

I'm all in on K?mpf.  Super reliable bottom 6 who PKs and scores the odd nice goal.

Just got finished reading MLHS's UFA review and I think the Leafs best move is retaining ROR ... not sure they can meet his price though.

2.5 lM isn't unreasonable but a little pricey.  2.5M is good for his defense but also not great for a guy who can go 40 games without scoring a goal.

Where I have issue with this is he's probably 500-750k over where he should be for his overall production.  We are going to grip about Nylander looking for 9+ million though for putting up PPG and 40 goals

Decent deal.  But I'd rather not see the team tie up a bit of extra money on longer term for pretty much bottom six run-of-the-mill players.

Would be nice if we had some youngsters in the pipeline who could fill these types of roles while on their ELCs than recycling a bunch of stiffs and hoping to squeeze the most out of them.

In 2016, Lou Lamoriello signed Matt Martin to 4 years @ 2.5MAAV and I think some people here were into it back then when the salary cap was 73M (3.42% of cap). Kampf is a good deal more useful.

When the cap starts to climb in years 2, 3 of this deal, would we rather be bargain bin shopping every offseason for someone in this role?

I'm sure we could get someone cheaper, but you get what you pay for. At the same time, the continuity, the PK faceoff skill and Kampf the person, has some value.

My hope was Holmberg could potentially replace Kampf as 4C - he looked good in his cups of coffee with the Leafs, but I guess doesn't have the same defensive prowess (yet) that Kampf does.

You are getting an excellent defender who doesn't have hands of stone.  They need to keep working with him on his offense because he can make plays.

Yeah. $2.4M for a guy who puts up 25ish points and provides strong defence is perfectly good value. It's roughly market rate.

4 years is a little on the long side, but, not enough to worry about.
