Most criticism MLSE might get is for hiring him in the first place.
From the wake he left in Calgary, he might be looking for a long time before he gets another crack as a GM in the NHL - if ever.
It is probably the best move the team has made this season but the reality is: it all depends on who they get to replace him and what they do going forward.
He took a 4th place team last season through some bluster about DNA to hoping for bottom five lottery pick protection. It is a results oriented business so my sympathies are very limited. I do feel it is likely good news but they're in such a hole, it is probably going to be a long time before they get back to where they were.

Wonder how different things would be if Marner waived to Carolina and Rantanen was received in return.

Really hope they instill the president of hockey operations position again. I don't trust Pelley whatsoever as the direct layer between the GM.

Marner was never going to waive for the Canes. They told Tre he would consider waiving to go west.
Leafs totally mishandled that situation.
