Toronto News: Manitoba native James Reimer gets the start tonight against the Jets. Head coach Ron Wilson said his plan all along saw Reimer playing tonight with Jonas Gustavsson likely to follow tomorrow night in Boston.Jake Gardiner re-enters the lineup on the blueline. Cody Franson looks to be coming out in his place. Mike Brown is excited to face the Jets tonight having played with the Manitoba Moose for three seasons. - TSN

Winnipeg News: Evander Kane was back at practice on Tuesday after missing the Pittsburgh game with an undisclosed 'lower-body' injury. He's expected to be in the lineup tonight against the Maple Leafs. - Winnipeg Free Press

All info/lines comes from TSN Ice Chips and this opening post will be updated if the lines change leading upto game time.

Very winnable game, let's hope they realize that only a full 60 minutes of attack will do. Quick start, pedal to the medal, strong forecheck and even stronger backcheck and things will be in our favour.

GO LEAFS GO!

I'd run Gustavsson against the Jets and let Reimer take BOS in the first away game.

OTOH I could see an argument for starting Reimer against WPG and try to nail down a 4-0-1 record for the homestand, which by any measure has to be considered a great start to the season.

I'd give Gustavsson the game and save Reimer for the two division rivals upcoming.

This is a winnable game and it'd be great to see the team pocket 9 out of 10 points out of the gate.

My guess is Gustavsson starts this game, especially after a couple of softies the other night from Reimer.

i don't think it would have anything to do with last game ..just more that you have to get your back up into some games if you're not planning to work reimer like a horse

This is the only game tomorrow?  Suck.

Winnipeg vs. Toronto and Grabovski vs. Ladd, the Leafs favoured in both categories.  Thoughts?

Laughed at the comment in the opening post under Toronto Injuries ;D

This would seem to be the game to give Gustavsson, but Reimer is a Manitoba kid and all ...

Reimer is a Bombers fan, he better not have been a Jets fan as a kid, if he watched hockey that long ago lol

If the game was in Winnipeg, I could see that being an issue, but its in Toronto so I don't see a problem with Reimer not playing.

Reimer better be in net Dec 31st and Feb 7th, I've had those dates circled since the NHL sked came out!!

:D It's been in every GDT I've posted since the start of last season I think.

From a jets forum, I burst out laughing when I read this one:
2 teams both at roughly the same stage in their development and progress...should be a good game.  GO JETS GO
Yea, sure, you have the same quality of young players like us?

It's not apples and oranges. Kane, Bogosian, Pavelec, Burmistrov, Scheifele. The Thrashers were only 5 points back of the Leafs last year.

I am not that impressed with Pavelec yet, he was good against the Pens, but they didn't have Crosby or Malkin in the lineup. Scheifele I guess can be put in the same boat as Kadri.

Burmistrov has been impressive so far, and Bogosian has struggled last year and so far this year. Kane looks like he will be a 70 point player in the next season or two, if he stays healthy.

I don't really see them having the same depth as us though, or no sniper like Kessel, maybe it's just me getting defensive because the Jets fans are getting on my nerves lately with all their rambling about how the rest of the NHL teams suck and they're the best from the team right down to their jersey's, getting really annoying.

You could probably pick apart the Leafs' young players in a similar way. I'm optimistic about Schenn but Schenn also struggled last year. Reimer was good last year but in fewer games than Pavelec and so on.

And that's without mentioning the guys like Byfuglien and Ladd who are still probably best described as young players and who stack up pretty well with the Leafs' players in those areas(Ladd's closest comp is probably Kulemin and Byfuglien's is Phaneuf).

So, yeah, I'd probably still give the edge to the Leafs but it's not crazy to suggest the two teams are at roughly similar stages.

Yeah, I think they're both pretty close, with the Leafs getting the edge in terms of depth.

Anyway, I hope Gustavsson starts tonight. I think he's a bit of a wild card this season, and he could perhaps surprise some people. If not, I think both Scrivens and Rynnas can step in and be highly capable backups right now.

Yea, I have to agree with your points Saint Nik & Newbury, damn Jets fans keep getting under my skin!

Kane still day-to-day?

Edit: Nevermind... I see he's "questionable" now.
