WSH
?Darcy Kuemper will likely start for the Capitals
?38-year old Alex Ovechkin is off to a slow start this season with 0 goals and just 2 points in his first 4 games. He failed to record a shot on goal in his 2nd and 3rd game this season, marking the first time he's gone shotless in consecutive games in his career
?Former Leafs Rasmus Sandin and coach Spencer Carbery face off against Toronto for the first time. Sandin started the season on Washington's top pair but is pointless in his first 4 games. Carbery's head coaching career is off to a slow start as well as the Caps sit 30th in the league in points and dead last in PP% going 0 for 13 so far this season

TOR
?Joseph Woll will start for the Leafs
?This was reportedly a scheduled start for Woll already, but his performance against Tampa will obviously put more pressure on the coaching staff to give him starts
?The Leafs practiced with Jarnkrok on the top line at practice on Monday and Bertuzzi with the Tavares-Nylander duo

Just an extra note to make sure everyone sees the odd 6pm start time. It's a part of the NHL's big "every game is staggered tonight but not ever again so enjoy it while it lasts" event.

That Caps lineup is so... old and weird.

Part of me looks at that line-up and thinks "hey, that looks pretty good". I mean up front at least they've got 3 pretty good centres (still sad the Leafs didn't sign Strome when he was a UFA), and wing depth must be fine if you can afford to have Milano and Wilson on your "third" line. But like you said with Oshie, Backstrom, and especially Ovi getting up their in age their effectiveness is obviously taking a hit. That defence is also very, very uninspiring, especially with the Orlov-sized hole that's been left there. I wouldn't be shocked if we don't see Ovechkin in the playoffs again before he finally retires.

I might even dip in for the first period tonight... (which means I'll probably end up watching the whole game)

Damn this initiative and my new found sleep pattern.

The beauty of hiring the former AHL coach to the NHL team is the continuity with many prospects that have developed in the system. Are any of these guys even former Hershey Bears? Connor McMichael is the only one I can eyeball.
Looking it up now, I see Martin Fehervary as the only other name (and Ilya Samsonov on the opposing bench).

Keefe is running out of Marlies now but he's been the first pro coach for the likes of Knies, Minten. I think he's just down to Nylander, Liljegren, and Woll from the Marlies.

Exactly. It's like these players are good, but a lot of them like Oshie and Backstrom are past their prime. Ovi's gotta slow down at some point. Then they have a strange mish mash of younger players who could be could but also very meh. Kuemper is overrated and I haven't heard of probably like 7 guys in their lineup.

I like the 6 pm start time. Means I won't be stuck in the bedtime routine with the kids for the 3rd preiod.
