I really wonder if this series is making the Leafs re-think Zaitsev's contract. From the sounds of it, it's basically a done deal. I'm guessing the Leafs just don't want to announce it until the season is over. But he's been bad this series. Like, "maybe don't sign him for 7 years" bad.

For some context though, I wasn't crazy about the rumoured deal even before this series.

Righthanded guys who can skate with a team built for speed ... but I hear you.  7-year deals need to go to superstars.

I was thinking the same thing. The issue, I think, is whether he's 100% right now.

And I still don't know that 7 years at a very reasonable rate is a huge risk even if he's only a good regular season, questionable playoff guy.

Agreed. If this was the regular season, and there wasn't anything on the line, would he even have been playing for the past week? He hasn't been great in the series, but, the health issue is a big asterisk.
