Bishop to Ottawa

TSNBobMcKenzie: Before trading G Ben Bishop to OTT for a 2013 2nd rd pick, STL signed him to a one-year, one-way contract. #TradeCentre #tsn

TSNBobMcKenzie: Bishop was to be Group Six UFA July 1. Could've lost UFA status by playing 17 NHL games (30 or more mins/game) this season. Moot point now.

So if Ottawa doesn't play him in 17 of the remaining 19 games he will be a UFA? Do playoff games come into this?

St Louis signed him to a 1 year extension before moving him, so, like Bobby Mac said, it's a moot point.

That's great news!

I'm a fan.  A 2nd is more than I envisioned, but if a 25 year old somehow went back in the draft, I'd happily take him in the second round.

The 2nd was / is steep but the news that we've got another year of him after this lessens the blow. He's 6'7! Murray didn't hesitate there did he?

Yeah, wasn't he just talking about not being interested last night? Or did I misinterpret what he said last night on CBC?

Thought the Leafs should have jumped on this kid and took a chance. Lots of talk about him and mostly positive. Still don't understand how some perceive drafts picks. It's a draft, a crap shoot. Ottawa's pick could be anywhere from 31st to 60th. Big deal. Don't know what you are going to get. Some #1 overall picks haven't panned out so you just don't know. Might be a bigtime steal for the Sens. Good on Murray to scoop him. Burke and staff were asleep on this one.

They weren't asleep in my opinion. I would think that their logic is something like (We already have goalie that could step up in Scrivens, Gus, Reimer, Rynnas, Owuya. So lets get a proven vet if anything) and I wouldn't call it wrong. I'm not sure a 39 yr old Goalie from Edmonton is the answer either. But I'm sure he wasn't asleep.

Where I wish he took action was Carter unless the request was Gardiner.

Kind of cryptic - said they weren't looking / interested but also said he wanted to see some games before he went either way. He did mention that if Auld or Lehner got hurt we'd be in a spot. So he shored up that problem and gave us a year with a touted goalie / prospect who appears to be ready for some NHL exposure. I'm anxious to hear from Murray on where Bishop's future is with the club.

I understand we have the abundance of netminders which is why I wonder why they don't bring someone up that might just get on a streak much like James did and maybe we wouldn't be where we are today. Only thing is they are all unproven as is Bishop but from what I'm hearing looks like the real thing. Haven't heard much on our three other than Scrivens but to be fair this is Owuya's first year. I would have taken a gamble on the kid.

Agreed. Pretty sure he would have explored this option if they were the least bit interested. I also agree they are looking for a veteran goalie. Nabakov would be ideal, but the asking price or availability might get in the way of making it happen.

Bob also corrected himself later on and stated that the sens signed him to the deal not the blues. Was really hoping that BB would pick him up and move someone out to make room. 6'7 goalie's are not a everyday thing.

Wonder how Lehner feels about this.

I think this has more to do with Auld!

Right now it does sure, but I'd imagine that Lehner thought he'd be getting some more playing time next season but it's looking like it'll be another year in the AHL for him barring injuries.

Luckily for Robin I understand he's a hunter of sorts.

I wanted Bishop.

We might have to "settle" with Lindback... Dreger just brought up his name for Toronto but nothing imminent there... He does feel we're likely to land a goalie today.
