I like the look of that bottom six. I think they can play hockey and chip in offensively while also being responsible defensively. I'm hoping that is how it plays out. Hillier said he hopes that Cowan can be a driver on his line. If the Leafs end up with three lines that can put the puck in the net regularly, that's something we haven't seen from this team since the Pat Quinn years.

Yeah that was a horrible, horrible year. I'm not really confident he's going to bring much value on his contract.

Hiller's remarks in general have been extremely blandiose, unlike coaches of yesteryears and in other markets.
So far it's: Skate hard, hold the puck if possible, feel the spirit of the Leaf flow through you
It rings similarly to how Chayka seems to manage and talk about the team: just stack a whack of best practices without any particular coherent throughline (or at least don't talk about it publicly).
So I'm not sure what team identity there is under the new regime for players to sort of hang their helmets on, and for Marlies stepping in to mold their mindset to. Maybe they want it to appear organically, rather than enforced as an edict from on high.
