2025-26 Marlies Thread

William Villeneuve 1G 8A 9P in 9GP

Not good enough to play for the Leafs.
Hey now keeping good players away helped us get the 1st overall, gotta move on.

But yeah, this run should put him in a legitimate conversation to make the team heading into training camp. He might not clear waivers again.

Was surprised to see Danford get into this game (over Chadwick). Figured he was just assigned to the team for practices and stuff.

I thought so too, but I guess they really wanted the L-R pairings

Danford was on the ice for the tying goal (Rifai) and the go-ahead goal (Nylander) and was awarded the game belt. The Marlies have that chummy team feel right now.

The latest MLHS podcast had a pretty good argument for giving Danford a long NHL look to start next season (if he survives the offseason turnover moves), since his offensive upside is so limited, he would be better served facing pro depth at 15-18 min a night and leveraging his smooth skating and first pass capabilities with structured forwards.

My erstwhile depth pickup target Hudson Fasching opened the scoring for the Monsters.

Marlies down 2-0 through 1. Getting outshot 13-4. Akytyamov seems to be getting the run this postseason. I'm modestly surprised at that

A Barret Jackman type rookie season would be awesome. Or Jonas Brodin.

I know I'm on the Tverberg wagon more then probably anyone, but this guy was the best player on the ice last night. The Leafs need to re-sign him and give him a shot on the 4th line/B6. He does everything well, except fight. Plays C, wing, doesn't matter. Good PKer, doesn't shy away from the physical play, throws hits and does what it takes.
I can't find the video when he chucked Svozil into the Cleveland net.
Some other observations....
Danford looks legit. Marlies use him in every situation. He PKs, D zone starts, whatever. He has great feet and moves the puck very well to go with his D. A guy that's flying under the radar is Thrun. He had a great game last night. Always joining the rush, great wheels. Chadwick is solid. He plays a lot with Danford and they're good together. You don't notice Chadwick a lot and I mean that in a good way. Akhtyamov also looks legit. He was unreal last night. I think the Leafs are def going to move a goalie.
Do or die Sunday...

If Tverberg were either bigger or faster, he’d win a spot easily. Wouldn’t mind getting him on some term so he passes through waivers more easily when needed.
