Is it just me, or does it feel like this class signifies a lowering of the entry requirements for the HHoF?

For me, in terms of the NHL players, Datsyuk is a first ballot-er, but the other two are...engh?  I'd sooner put Mogilny over Roenick.

I'm not sure I like Colin Campbell's induction either - wasn't it so long ago that the emails came out and it came out he was pushing the refs from making calls against his son?

Roenick's an interesting one as I'm not sure why his argument got any better after all these years. I don't really know what Roenick over Mogilny really says about their criteria other than I guess they're inclined to like a C over a winger the same way a GM might?

I think Datsyk and Weber are pretty easy choices though.

Datsyuk has a great rep and some hardware, but his career numbers don't scream HHoF - though, some decent international totals that put him over the top. I'm not sure he should have been a first-ballot guy, but it's a weak class this year and he is a guy that belongs in the Hall.

Weber . . . no hardware, some end of season All Star nods, and some international success. He's probably near the bare minimum for entry from a blueliner, but, I would probably put him in the Hall of Very Good.

Roenick has good numbers, but why now?

I think Datsyuk is a good example of guys who are a reflection of how the way we think about "HOF numbers" are probably going to change after the muted offensive years we saw during his career. We all grew up with the 1000 points and roughly ppg standards and it resulted in the overrepresentation of the high scoring 80's and 90's guys.

Datsyuk, though, I think was consistently a top 10 guy in the league for the better part of a decade. Throw in the cups and I think he's not just above a minimum threshold but easily towards the upper echelon of the Hall's standards.

I agree with you. Mogilny not being in there ... I will never get it.
I was never a fan of Roenick's behavior. I'm sure that's why he had to wait so long.
Mogilny's numbers, story and record are better.

I don't get Campbell's induction either. Part of Bettman's buddies club?
Imagine all the "huh?" when folks walk by his place in the Hall.

Harold Ballard is in there as a builder so ... every once in a while, you have to hold your nose I guess.
