We can use this thread for prospect updates during the year. I'll try and post a monthly stats update at the beginning of every month. But who am I kidding, we all just want to know about Nylander.

He made his season debut with Modo today. He played centre on their top line and had a goal, 2 shots on net, and went 11 for 14 on the the draw (78.5%) in a 2-1 Modo win. So sounds like a pretty good first game. Really happy that he's playing centre over there.

What about Andreas Johnsson?

He finished the group stage of the Champions Hockey League with 16 points in 4 games. He finished 2nd to his linemate who had 17 points in 6 games (Johnson missed 2 games due to injury). The next highest scorer was former NHLer Matt D'Agostini who had 12 points in 6 games. The next round of this tournament happens in November where I'm sure he'll face off against some tougher competition.

For now he's back competing in the SHL where he's obviously cooled off. 6 points in 10 games, 4th on Frolunda in scoring (team leader has 8). He's playing on their 3rd line. Not bad for a 19-year old.

Nice little update on Toninato.  5th in the nation in scoring, seems to need to work with Barb Underhill a  little more but didnt we say the same thing about Joe Colbournes skating at one point and he has turned out to be a real stiff.  Could be a stud centre of the future

Nice little update on Toninato.  5th in the nation in scoring, seems to need to work with Barb Underhill a  little more but didnt we say the same thing about Joe Colbournes skating at one point and he has turned out to be a real stiff.  Could be a stud centre of the future

Colborne had 10 goals, 28 points last year as a bottom 6 centre. He is 24 years old. I guess Toninato has 4 years to surpass those totals to prevent him from becoming a stiff.

Man you guys gotta lighten up, I was being facetious, in other words making fun.  Of course I would prefer that Smokin Joe was still a Leaf, I could see we had a talent on our hands but of course he couldn't develop with us.  So now Calgary has a Centre whom should have at least been on our 3rd line.

Look at what Toninato is doing in the US, tearing it up. And hope he can solve some of our Centre problems in the future.

Off-topic, but Colborne made a rare appearance in Elliotte Friedman's 30 thoughts this week:

15. MacKinnon beat three-time Olympic short-track speed-skating gold medallist Charles Hamelin in a quick race set up by CCM. How much burst does Colorado?s tremendous forward have? A company called PowerScout hockey is starting to track both top speed and acceleration through a computer program that uses three cameras set up around a rink.

16. The sample size is small (one-to-six times per player), but growing, and PowerScout (for business reasons) won?t allow its videos to be posted. The data I did see was compelling. MacKinnon was not one of the quickest accelerators (Alexander Ovechkin was first among those tracked, followed by Erik Karlsson, Ryan Kesler and Taylor Hall), but only Carl Hagelin had a faster highest speed, at slightly above 37 kilometres per hour. Glad to see the kid doing well. I wasn't happy about losing him (why he had to go who knows, roster casualty or some such because, you know, Orr/McLaren).

I hope he turns out well for the Flames.

On a side note, I've watched a couple of their games this year and if they keep it up, they'll have a new fan in me. Love the D with Giordano/Brodie/Wideman, and they've played a great team game so far. Hiller's been pretty good too!

12 months ago Nylander couldn't get a 4th line shift in the SHL. Now he's probably one of if not the league's best player.

I'm not surprised. He was born in Calgary after all. Good Canadian boy!
