    2025-26 General Trades & Signings

I was all for Toews but holy crap this is a completely insane contract for him. Toews can earn as much as $7mil this season through games played bonuses and if the Jets win the Cup. He'd get $5.25mil if he plays 60 regular season games and the Jets make the playoffs.

Sure, but I was really hoping he'd take $10mil from another team or something to get him out of Florida at least.

I like the idea of Reilly Smith but everyone seems to have him in the $4-5mil range which seems pretty high for a 40 point 34-year old. Maybe he had Leafs pajamas growing up and wants a bit of security after bouncing around 4 teams in the past 3 seasons to get that AAV down.

Marchment may be slow and lack playoff success but he's still got a perfectly fine contract for a physical 20 goal, 50 point forward. Even needing cap space I'm actually surprised they couldn't get a little more for him. Guys like Dumba and Lyubushkin are who are gonna need sweeteners.

Also if the league caught wind of Spezza somehow earning 10x what a typical "assistant to the GM" or whatever his original title was you can be sure they'd come down hard on the Leafs. Really this all comes down to having any sort of handshake agreement to pay a player in his post-retirement...

Pretty nice home town discount here (in this case home is where the heart is and Duchene's heart is wherever country music is).

This isn't about the Leafs but one thing I wish the NHL Edge page did was list the average top skating speed (like with the top-5 or 10 marks) as opposed to just the highest mark they achieved that season. Like Pacioretty hit a top skating speed of 22.45 mph which is super good especially for a...

Pretty mediocre playoff history too, especially for a guy you would think would thrive in playoff hockey.

I feel like the time to sign Suter would have been two years ago. The team desperately needed a 3C then too and he hung around unsigned until August 11 and signed for a fraction of what he'll get now. I suspect he'll be one of the more overpaid players this July now, especially with the lack of...

When the talk of 8 years were came out I was like, "oh cool, they'll get him for like $2mil that's not bad then". Bizarre contract especially considering he was a bit of a non-factor in their playoff run. 1 goal, 4 points in 22 games. Averaged the 11th most 5-on-5 ice-time among forwards...

Haula's 34 years old with 1 year left on his deal at a $3.4mil cap hit ($2.4mil salary). He went from being a fairly consistent 40-point guy to just 21 points in 69 games. Got a 4th round draft pick. Jarnkrok turns 34 in September and has 1 year left on his deal at a $2.1mil cap hit ($775k...

SCF: Florida Panthers vs. Edmonton Oilers

The Leafs need to hire this person to lead their scouting department.

That's a weird one, especially as it came directly from the OHL twitter account. With that said development camp invites aren't really the biggest of deals. Elliott is committed to the NCAA next season (which is almost certainly the best place for him as I doubt he's pro ready regardless of his...

A few names on this last I've already seen brought up a number of times here (Jeannot, Mangiapane, Smith, Brazeau, Tanev). Two names that I hadn't thought a ton about that were included here both come from Carolina: Eric Robinson and Brent Burns. Robinson, 30, is a "big, speedy, physical" as...

McMann's probably the best example. Holl to a degree. There's also guys like Marchment, Moore, Brazeau who spent at least some time going through the Leafs developmental system who ended up being players after leaving here. Oddly enough all these guys were UFAs. Leafs have had arguably more...

Feels crazy but yeah obviously they wanted to avoid the perception that they're going into the tournament with a starter in mind. Hellebuyck and Oettinger will likely be battling for that role until the last second I'd imagine. I think the bigger omission there was Slavin. Guy was by most...

Somewhat riffing on my last post I wouldn't be surprised if Toronto's current analytics/R&D team sees some upheaval during the offseason. The vast majority of the group has been here for 10+ years now and while it's impossible to know for sure what their impacts have been or what they've maybe...

He certainly took another step with the Panthers but the signs of him being a very, very good player were always there, reference this from when he was originally traded to Florida: It's a little funny. For all the talk of the Panthers being this gritty, tough, old school hockey team...
