I think it's a cap clearing move in the sense that the goalies were going to cost somewhere around $8.25m next season and now the goalie room will come in around $4.55m.

I found the moves to be more interesting than head-scratching. I think there is upside to both moves made.

Hiller's LA teams definitely lacked the 'top end' talent that is present on the Leafs. Hopefully there is a combing of the two that will work out well.

Hiller has a pretty decent winning percentage as Head Coach. Like Herman mentioned, was a Leafs assistant coach from 2015-2019 so the Leafs core know him, possibly like him? Not a terrible hire.

It's not a Pogge situation at all. We have a pretty good idea who these goalies are in their careers at this point.

I think the Leafs are stuck with Stolarz (at least for now) 🙁 I do think Stolarz still represents a higher ceiling but last year was very concerning. Luckily, Carolina just showed us you don't need a good goalie to win the cup. 😃

My assumption is that the Leafs targeted Emil Andrae and were prepared to pony up for him and in general, goalies are not returning a lot currently in the NHL trade market. Leafs probably had to move a goalie this offseason, tough to tell what would have been possible in a Woll trade. I think...

Overall it was a very weird year for the NHL. I'm not sure we will see this type of situation where we had such of turnover of teams that went from contenders to not (and vice versa) again anytime soon.
