Coaching and management changes around the league

I thought McDavid played a role with the NHLPA to facilitate the firing of Babcock from Columbus... Or is that just something my mind invented?

I think by Babcock resigning that killed the investigation into his behavior. He was not fired from Columbus.
By resigning he avoided being held accountable - it ended the whole thing. I guess he now figures enough time has passed and he has a clean slate that never really got blemished because he thwarted the investigation by resigning. Looks like members of the NHLPA feel otherwise. So do members of the media I listened to today - they're gathering up more testimony on his behavior.

Elliot Friedman has speculated that the Leafs could be interested in Tortorella if Vegas doesn't want him back. I would not watch any games this upcoming season if he's the coach.

I thought under the circumstances, he did well to get Vegas to within a couple of games of the Stanley Cup.
I've never been a big fan of coaches like Tortorella.
I also don't think he is the type of coach that the Leafs need now.
I wonder if he was on a short leash and his mishandling of the media that cost them a 2nd round pick scuttled any chance of a renewal.
I can't recall seeing anything quite like it - where a coach is hired with 8 games to go, gets them to the finals and doesn't get a renewal.

I believe I saw a report saying he knew it was a short term stint from the get go.

Tortorella had mentioned it before - that his contract ended in June. After the loss of the 2nd round pick.
He made some comment after the playoffs that he's interested on how his Vegas team will do next year - that sparked a little media.

Other media reported that McCrimmon and Tortorella had reportedly had an agreement to last as long as Vegas was in the playoffs (maybe the balance of his Philly deal) and to evaluate the future when the time came. Today, the conclusion of McCrimmon's evaluation was announced by McCrimmon. So I wonder if the media event that cost them the 2nd rounder violated an agreement that Torttorella had to be on his best behavior.
