Wellwood

The former OHL leading scorer, who the leafs gave away for nothing is off to a great start with the Jets.  He presently has 3 goals 2 assists for 5 points total and is playing on a scoring line.  I feel Vancouver and the Sharks were not using him properly by putting him on the 3rd line.  All Wellwood can contribute is offense so he needs to be on a scoring line.

P.S. Feel free to respond with any jokes about cheeseburgers or weight gain.

Wellwood could have been the star of either the 'Ass Burgers' or 'Weight Gain 4000' episodes?

Wait, Wellwood is Cartman?!?

He was always a talented player who I've long rooted for to establish himself. I agree that he's pretty much limited to a PP specialist/6th forward sort of role though.

Meh, soft hands, but soft as butter too - I haven't looked back

My favourite picture of him:

I feel like we've seen this from Wellwood before - didn't he have a great start in Vancouver a couple seasons ago before essentially falling off the map?

Yup. Wellwood has always been an odd guy for me. I generally hope ex-Leafs do well wherever they are but I'm not sure I feel that way for Wellwood. At what's more strange is he really didn't do anything to anger me so I'm not sure why that is. I mean the worst thing he said in my opinion was that "Gretzky" thing but that was more just dumb than mean spirited I think.

I really do think that it just is that he's kind of an odd guy. I think we saw from the Franson thing that just about any sort of deviation from the norm of standard hockey player behaviour gets a lot of people's noses out of joint. Wellwood was always a weird guy who seemed as though he hadn't been given the cliche handbook.

Yeah, but I think I was in the minority where Franson's comments didn't get my nose out of joint.  :-\

They likely were playing him on a scoring line at the time.  You cannot expect him to put up numbers with 12 minutes of ice tie and playing with slugs on the 3rd line.  That was my whole point.  Due to the depth in Winnipeg he should be playing on a scoring line all season and should put up better numbers then either stajan or sheen who I feel were unjustly put ahead of him in the depth chart.

Wellwood had another great game for the jets.  1 goal, 1 assist and the shootout winner.  The coach highly praised him for a guy that can play in all situations, creates offense and wins faceoffs.  I hope he has a great year and makes the most of the opportunity.

Very happy to see the start he's had with the Jets.  I also am hoping he has a great year there.

Yeah, good for Kyle. I kid about him but I wish him the best.

It's nice to see. He appeared to play pretty well for both the Canucks and Sharks in a bottom-6 role, but for whatever reason he couldn't stick there (In the Canucks case it was only because they wanted to get bigger in the bottom-6 to match up against Chicago). He's definitely shown much more interest in the defensive part of the game at this part in his career and now he's in a situation where he can play in a more offensive role too.

Wellwood and Antropov both appear to be fitting in well with the Jets (I know it's not really a new team for seems Nik but it like it because of the relocation).  Very glad for them both.

Antropov is from kazistan.  He doesn't know what to do in warm weather.  He is feeling more at home now that he is back in the tundra.

Wellwood has resigned with the Jets.  Good to see a team that appreciates him.
