DAL
?Jake Oettinger (3-0-1, 1.44 GAA, .952 Sv%) will likely start for the Stars
?Dallas is off to a great start to the season. 39-year old Joe Pavelski leads the way in scoring for the team with 6 points in 5 games

TOR
?Ilya Samsonov (2-1-0, 4.34 GAA, .831 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Joseph Woll (2-1-0, 1.44 GAA, .958 Sv%) is also just as likely to start for the Leafs. I could understand arguments for each at this point: Woll is hot and has earned the right to keep playing, but eventually the team also needs Samsonov to bounce back and the only way that happens is by playing

Wyatt Johnston is a 20 year old 23rd overall pick from the 2021 draft.

He had 24 goals and 42 points in 82 games for the Stars last year in his rookie season...he was 19.

Was part of that 2021 Covid draft class. Johnston was actually the first player selected who didn't play a single game in the 2020/21 season due to the OHL's cancelled season (other OHLers drafted ahead of him ended up playing some games in Europe). Definitely safe to say he wouldn't have been available at 23 if not for that.

Still though, credit to the Stars draft management team for taking a pretty big risk then.  So far so good.

The Stars are one of those sneaky teams on this stuff...Jason Robertson was a second round pick 39th overall.

They also got Logan Stankoven in the 2021 draft 2nd rd (Minten's teammate on the Blazers when they geared up for Mem Cup). But other than that, I don't really see any other 'sleeper' picks.

If you want to go back to 2015, Hintz turned out to punch far above his draft weight of 49th overall.

I look at the Leafs lineup, and from a draft perspective Dubas and co. really didn't contribute anyone that you could point to as outperforming their draft number...yet.

Think it's fair to call Knies that even now. In a re-draft exercise earlier this month the Athletic had him going 8th overall in the 2021 draft.

Knies probably could've done it a season earlier but wanted to try for the NCAA championship first.
Robertson, despite his spate of struggles, is not outside the range of outperforming his draft slot.
Not saying Ty Voit should be getting NHL minutes anytime soon (or even ever?) but he's performing above his draft slot. Hirvonen and Niemela (2020 2nd, 3rd) and probably Tverberg (2020 7th rd) will make NHL noise next training camp. Grebyonkin (2022 5th) should be a Marlie next year.

Sandin and Durzi are punching above their draft slots but they are no longer in our system.

Woll confirmed.

I hope Samonov gets in a good game soon. He's been sooo BAD! We need two goalies.

I'd give Sammy the next start (unless Woll plays great, shutout...) Gonna need both these guys this season. Keep them both fresh. I'm good with Sammy going against Nashville.

Yeah Keefe says the plan is for Samsonov to go Saturday.

They better come out with a better start than what we've seen so far this year. Can't rely on Woll who stole one for us Tuesday. Someone posted the other day we could easily be 5-1 or 6-0 ya that is correct but we've been lucky to pull out some games without playing a full 60 minutes and could easily be under .500.

I think the team is just giving Minten the time with the pro team for learning experience, and a nice little paycheque to reward him for an excellent camp.  He'll have plenty of stories to tell his teammates of the Kamloops team he'll be captaining.

Just watching Tavares highlights in the pre-G.

I'm not criticizing him for the foreseeable future.  As somebody on here said, he's the most underrated overrated player in the league.

John Tavares doesn?t change; just your expectations of him.
