Stamkos in Two Years?

Fanatic

I admit to thinking about this scenario a lot. I was not aware that others were as well. But I guess the chatter is out there.

Can we not do this until Stamkos becoming a UFA or being traded becomes a real possibility?

Connor McDavid - July, 2023. It makes too much sense not to happen.

Figure Stamkos will be 33 at that point, so probably good timing to hand off the reins.

This team has been bad for so long that sometimes the "what ifs" are the best thing to look to. Yes, it's a long time from now and overall it's a long shot but still lingers as a fun "what if".

That's why I kept my breaking news "P5" rumour in the Random Rumours section like the civilized foaming-at-the-mouth fan that I am.

I only visit this site a few times a year. A lot has changed since I was a regular many years ago.

For instance, if someone doesn't know any better and posts something that is already posted somewhere else the nice folks here used to let that person know via a PM or a mod would merge it. Now you just get treated like the redheaded step child who is not in the cool club.

I wonder why all these years later it's the same old people bantering back and forth.

Yea I don't post on here anymore either.  I remember when it was a fun place to hang out....no more.

Don't be so sensitive, it's actually a very tolerant place.

These same old people are a very knowledgeable bunch, and quite progressive in terms of their opinions I'd say....other than me of course.

Yeah that wasn't in any way shape or form attempting to make you seem like a redheaded stepchild or whatever and was instead an attempt to poke fun at myself for also posting the rumour like a 'foaming at the mouth' fan.

Take 'er easy.

It's one thing to discuss "what ifs" for guys who are a few months away from being free agents or guys who seem like real possibilities to be traded, but, in this case, there are still two full seasons to be played before it even potentially becomes a possibility. It's way too early for this discussion.

I blame busta.

Peklund??

Getting things back to Stamkos, I do think at some point we're going to see a fairly high profile star want to come home and play in Toronto (while he's still in good shape). I don't know if it will be Stamkos, Subban, Tavares, or somebody else, but it's bound to happen.

I wouldn't rule it out but it does sort of seem like that's an overblown phenomenon not just in hockey but in sports in general. I know the Lebron thing is fresh in people's minds but it's pretty safe to say that doesn't happen unless the Cavs are both in a position to offer him the max money and have a very good group of young players combined with the demise of the Heat.

Otherwise, it's kind of tough to look at the sports landscape and see that guys tend to have strong desires to play for the team they might have cheered for growing up. Sure, it's something that gets mentioned when it happens but it doesn't seem to drive any actual decision making.

Yeah. I think it really only comes into play for most guys when the situation their hometown team offers is similar to the best situations offered by other teams.
