He was never a true 1st or 2nd line center anyway in my mind. And he may get bumped to the press box when Morrison returns from his knee injury.

Not good news for a 27yr old NHLer.

They should have put him on the wing before they dropped him to the 4th line.  I think this is more of the coach no liking him then a decline in his play.

Healthy scratch for the last two games

Total of 4 games as healthy scratch this season.

12 GP 2Pts -2

Might be playing tonight with Moss injured in the last game.

?You take the situation you?re in and try to stay positive,? said Stajan, 27. ?Try to help the team and try to stay ready. It?s not fun sitting out.

?It?s frustrating when you?re not playing, no doubt about it. There?s not a guy you would ask who would be happy about it, so I?m no different.?

NHLers can do alot worse than the ~20 million he'll have made from his NHL career through the end of this contract.

He seems to be taking it in stride.  It's often said on here that you can't blame him for accepting an overpayment, and his was a big one.

We have acquaintances whose son died shortly after birth last year.  It's very sad, the more so since infant mortality has gone done so much in modern times.  But still, a lot can go wrong.  I feel bad for Matt, his wife, and their family.

I was close to losing 3 out of our 4 kids at birth. It's a scary time and a zillion things can go wrong.  Was so sorry to hear this news.

Terrible news about Stajan's family.  With 3 girls of my own and knowing how freaked out you are at the hospital the first few days I can't even imagine how to deal with something like that.

:(

Awful news.  My cousin just went through this and it's been very hard on him and his wife. I can't even imagine what it would feel like.

awful, awful news. Stajan was one of my favourite Leafs when he was here. Wasn't happy to see him traded, have always carried a soft spot for him.

And this is just terrible for him and his wife. Just an awful thing to have happen. So sorry for them. There's no words.

:'( Such heartbreaking news to hear. My heart goes out to Matt and his wife. I cannot even begin to imagine going through this. 9 mths carrying that little life and you leave the hospital with nothing. No parent should have to ever go through losing a child. Prayers and thoughts with them.

? Matt Stajan dedicated a goal he scored on a penalty shot to his son who died March 3, shortly after birth.
?You know, it?s hasn?t been easy,? the 30-year-old ex-Leaf told the Calgary Herald. ?That one?s for the little guy. And it gave us some puck-luck after, too. I?ll move on now, but I?ll remember that one forever ? in life, obviously, some things are more important. But you have to move on and remember. To score the way I did on a penalty shot. It?s a little bit of a nice story for my family, my wife.
?It?s something you?ll have a stamp on forever.?

This thread was still on the first page of ex-leafs so that's why I don't feel that bad posting here...

Anyway - I was just tooling around at hockeydb, and I found this kind of funny.

Since they were traded for each other;

Stajan has 124 points in 282 games and Phaneuf has 156 points in 328 games.

I know there's no point of comparison here, but I found this a little amusing.

Am I missing something or is it just that Phaneuf has outscored him?

There's really no point I guess other than he's been outscored by a defenceman when he was touted as a top 6 player - which I never saw in his time with the leafs.

Like I said though, there's no point of comparison here. Apples and oranges, I am aware of this.

Right on. Just wasn't sure.
