EdmontonOilers: #Oilers acquire G Laurent Brossoit and C Roman Horak from @NHLFlames in exchange for D Ladislav Smid and G Olivier Roy.

I feel they could've made a deal to pick up a a really good goalie with a better piece of the team.
Not sure who, but Lehner/Anderson, or Reimer might've been better options.
Bryz (minus Smid) just doesn't seem like he'll make much of a difference. Defense is a big problem and it didn't get any better with this deal.
Deal one of RNH, Eberle, Hall, Yak and the return should be enough to make the team better in the W column.

To me, the biggest surprise in this deal is that the Oilers made a significant deal with the Flames.

I honestly don't know what this move is about though... would've thought Smid had more value. Horak is what, a decent B level prospect?

Why are the oilers trading a veteran Dman when their defense is awful? Smid may not be great but he's as good as anybody they have back there.

I guess it's a move toward building up a prospect pool but I'm not sure how a mediocre 22 year old forward and a late round goaltending prospect is going to help them...I guess he's off to a decent start in the ECHL though with 2 shutouts in 3 games and 0 goals allowed on 40 shots. He got rocked around a bit in the AHL though first.

I know it was just a fantasy league, but after getting a good 1st, I dealt what I could to even bigger losers. Ended up improving them just enough that the team I dealt with ended up dead last. If Edmonton is smart, they'll deal any of their older guys to teams like Buffalo, Florida, Philly.... Anything to improve their odds at the #1 pick.Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate said:

The hilarious part in their misfortune is that this year's draft looks - correct me if I'm wrong - like one of those classes that's missing that #1 marquee guy.
So Edmonton could very well get their 4th 1st overall in 5 years, while not really finding the franchise player they've been looking for.
