Samsonov's arbitration case - 1-yr 3.55M

Arbitration settlements generally speaking either come it at exactly the mid-point of the two filings, or slightly lower favouring the team. Mid points is $3.65mil, so probably that or something like $3.5mil. Samsonov is going into the last year of his RFA eligibility so an awarded contract through arbitration can only have a term of 1-year.

If the trend of arbitrators simply splitting the difference more or less continues that'll certainly be a tad bit higher than I would have guessed on a 1-year deal. It would mean if the Leafs buyout Murray (and there's questions now if they even can due to his health) the team would still need to move/waive both Timmins and Lafferty and run a 12F-6D roster to be under the cap.

Maybe the Leafs decided that instead of trading their first this year, they'll just go over the cap and forfeit it instead.

It's a bold strategy cotton...let's see if it pays off for them.

That is one of my all time favourite Jason Bateman roles, even if it was small.

Hey look, I am a Jason Bateman fan all around, but that role in Dodgeball, how he played off of Gary Cole, I just loved it.  I laugh out loud every time I see one of his scenes from that movie.

Alright, that's it.  I'm watching Dodgeball.  Again!!!

A reminder that as of the 2020 CBA extension, they cannot settle after the hearing and prior to the award.

So Leafs are just gonna walk away from Samsonov's contract if it comes in too high?

They'll only be able to walk away from a contract if the number comes in higher than around $4.5mil, which it almost certainly won't.

Would also be an extremely risky move unless they have a trade for another goalie lined up.
