Used to watch the Monkees as a kid, before they were reruns! Feeling old lol.
 
I might be wrong about this but I think the Monkees were, technically, the first concert I ever went to. I think they were playing Ontario Place or the Ex when we were there when I was 4 or 5 and my Dad wanted to see them so I sat through a few songs.

They have a weird musical legacy because they were obviously sort of the first manufactured TV band but then a lot of their stuff was written by some of the best industry songwriters and played by some of the better studio musicians so a lot of it holds up in a lightweight pop sense.

Anyways, sad news and I'm sure my old man will be bummed.
