Ontario Election 2018

Looks like Doug Ford has, unsurprisingly, taken a page outta Trump's playbook and gotten the twitter bot accounts on his side:

https://twitter.com/hashtag/crookedchristine?src=hash

@EmmaPCParty -> Joined twitter March 2018, a reverse-image search of the profile pic leads to an image captioned "Russian Red Asian Tour"

@Bob28480900 -> Joined March 2018, no profile pic

@Alyssa87801952 -> Joined March 2018, a reverse-image search of the profile pic leads to a site titled "Do Pakistanis and Indians think Asian girls (Either East Asia or South east Asia) are attractive? Why (is it because of nose, eyes, skin)?"

@MikeHockey1234 -> Joined March 2018, a reverse-image search of the profile pic reveals that it actually belongs to Hubert Paul. Hubert "enjoys dogs, the Denver Broncos, skiing, and golf (in no particular order)" and probably doesn't care about this election since he goes to school in North Carolina.

@DavidHo9678 -> Joined March 2018, a reverse-image search somehow doesn't pull up any results but I mean it's a cropped picture of famous chef Jamie Oliver.

I remember thinking that about the other election.

As Nate Silver has gone to great lengths to point out, if you get tails three times in a row it doesn't change the odds of a coin flip.

Jesus. He could definitely win the general election too.

If nothing else this makes that outcome less likely.

I remember thinking that about the other election.

The problem is people like my blue collar conservative dad thinks Doug is a straight shooter, and Rob was a good guy. I'm sorry to say that this populist BS doesn't just exist south of the border...

It's very hard to respect a selection such as this. We're reliving Rob Ford and Trump - he will get elected.

Wow......and there I was thinking I was going to vote Conservative because I'm sick of the Liberals and their nonsense.  Guess not.

I think the election would have been a slam dunk for the PCs if they elected anybody but Ford. It feels like there's way too many people just sick of the Liberals/Wynne and who want change. If this election happened right around the same time as Trump's, I'd be terrified. Hopefully enough people see that voting for that type of person/idiot just because he's the "lesser of two evils" doesn't work out like you'd think.

Well, that throws a bit of a wrench into the upcoming election. Who is hated most/least?

Is that Andrea Horwath's music, or no?

It depends on how much of a long term memory Ontario voters have - many still remember how bad the Rae days were.  But people really don't trust Wynne at the moment, the Harris government still leaves a sour taste in people's mouths.  It really is a lesser of 3 evils scenario.

Ford has a realistic shot, though - especially with his courting the evangelical Ontarians, who are incredibly disenfranchised and very mobilized right now (6,000 new PC party members registered through the "Right to Life" group for the leadership vote - almost all overwhelmingly for Ford).  Horwarth tried to paint herself as a "moderate" NDP-er last election, and it kind of backfired with her base.  If she does it again, it actually might work this time in trying to court traditional Liberal voters who have a distrust of Wynne.

This is the part of the picture I have a way too up-close-and-personal view of, and it, again, is very Trumpian/Handmaid's Tale. It doesn't help that the federal Liberals make them feel that disenfranchisement all the more starkly.

I'd like to think I'm above dirty politics, but I am kind of hoping someone makes #DrugFord a thing. Perhaps a Freudian-slip on the teleprompter at a debate.

To win the election? I don't think the NDP has a shot, no. To be "king maker," so-to-speak? Seems like a highly likely outcome. I think we probably see a minority government come out of the election (I felt it would possibly lean that way before, now I think it's by far the most likely outcome), and who ends up premier will ultimately rest on whether or not a coalition can be formed.

Looks like it's folks folks FOLKS FOLKS against the downtown elite.

I can't believe a Ford is still in the middle of political discourse in this province. You would have thought that the death of the crack mayor would have put an end to their reign. But here we go with his crack dealer brother, polling in majority territory. Yikes.
