In Corey Pronman's annual top college, CHL and European free agents list Quillan was ranked 4th (2nd among NCAA players) and described as someone who was projected to play NHL games:

Quillan was the MVP of the NCAA tournament last spring and has been a big part of a top Quinnipiac team again this year. He?s a strong skating center with good puck skills who can create offense with pace. His hockey sense is fine, good enough, to go with a strong compete level and ability to play both ways. At 6-0 without dynamic enough puck play, whether there?s enough to his game to be a real player is debatable, but he could be a very useful depth piece for an NHL organization.

I'd actually heard of Quillan and saw a bit of him last year.

Looked at some video and scouting report.
Wasn't conclusive though he's scored a number of OT goals.

He's dedicated & smart. Decent size - not a smurf. A real competitor.

Last December, I thought he was the most intriguing NCAA UFA forward.
But I haven't seen enough of them to be very sure.

This is the sort of thing they have to do to make up for a lack of draft picks.
I think it is a good signing.

~12% of the league is undrafted ...

Seems the Leafs are doing a lot of non Draft stuff pretty well. This is a good pick up. And the one in Russia is interesting as well

IF he becomes a LH Zach Hyman that plays centre...

I mean I'd be thrilled if he was even just another Trevor Moore or Bobby McMann who can play centre (and get to the NHL quicker).

Reads a bit more like a net front Minten

Is he the next Knies or the next Christian Hanson? Time will tell

Tyler Bozak?

Yeah a better comparison since Bozak and Hanson were college free agents the Leafs never drafted, Knies was a draft pick that went back to college
