The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Thursday that the hockey club has signed forward Darryl Boyce to a one year contract.

Boyce, 27, played in 46 games for the Maple Leafs in 2010-11 and collected five goals and eight assists with 33 penalty minutes. His plus/minus mark (+8) was second on the team. He was an ?even or plus? in 36 of the 46 games played this past season.

Boyce's new deal with the Leafs is two-way. He'll get $700,000 in the NHL and $105,000 in the minors.

I don't mind this signing. Just get that "good sized prototypical 4th line center that is good at faceoffs" Loiselle suggested so that Boyce is depth and i'll be happier.

A forgettable player but I like him.  I actually thought he was pretty effective last year, and a heck of a lot more stable defensively than some of the garbage on the team last year with Crabb in the bottom 6.

I'm glad he'll be back next season.  He seems like a hard working grinder & checker who knows his role.  As someone else already mentioned, he really won me over with how he handled the whole "getting his nose half ripped off" thing.  I've got a feeling he'll either be the 13th forward, or slide over to the wing on the fourth line because between him & Zigomanis, Zigomanis is the better faceoff man.

So apparently Darryl Boyce is now the longest serving Leaf?  That's very scary.
How so?  It doesn't really mean anything...

He played 1 game for the Leafs in 2007-2008, so before anyone else on the current roster.  Sure it doesn't mean much other than to show just how much the roster has been turned over in the last 4 years.

105k in the A, 700k with the Leafs. Easy to accept that for depth.

So how many contracts out of 50 does this make now?

49 Gross tally when Schenn re-signed.

Some of those won't count (juniors, LTIR). Worst case is that they're at 46 net to start the season I'd say (Lombadri LTIR, Crescenzi & McKegg in junior)

When you said it was "very scary", I thought you meant that like it was a bad thing.  Personally, I think it's a good sign that Burke has completely revamped the roster to his liking.
