Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mike Brown underwent surgery to repair a disk in his back on Friday.

The potentially tragic thing there is how does a guy who relies on hitting as a key part of his forechecking game come back and bang with a gimpy back?

Hopefully, he can (I like and respect the guy) but when I've researched that injury before, a bunch of players in the NHL who had that type of surgery could not ...

Tough break for Brown.  Always liked his hustle, hopefully he can get back and still play effectively.

- Colby Armstrong (ankle) is another week or so away from returning. Matt Lombardi (shoulder) could return in another 10 days to two weeks.

- Defenceman Mike Komisarek, who has a broken arm, was skating on his own before practice. His recovery has been sped up a little, but he's still going to miss another four to six weeks.

He was able to the play the rest of the game, so, it's likely not too severe. I say he misses 2 more games, max.
