I used to work in the film business when I was in my 20's. I pulled up at Magdar Studios in Scarborough at 5:30AM on a freezing snowy morning, it was dark. I was there to deliver some props for a TV commercial to one of the studios in the complex. They also shot Second City at another studio there.
No one was there as promised to let me in. So I am looking through the glass door at the entrance freezing my butt off and all of a sudden someone is banging on the window to my left. I turn my head and its Candy, cigarette hanging out of his mouth, cursing like hell for someone to let him in. I guess my jaw dropped quite a bit.
Something I will never forget.
A couple of years later I was working on a Showtime movie directed by Dave Thomas, most of the second city people were in it, Catherine, Martin Short, and Candy. The morning of his filming he was not a happy camper again, he was ranting around the studio with the Toronto Star in his hand, completely pissed that they had published his kids names in an article. He was worried about kidnapping. So the two times I met him, he was strained to put it mildly.
On of the Assistant Directors that I worked with a lot told me that one of Candy's brothers was way funnier than John but his first name escapes me now. Strange he never gave it a shot.
