Yeah, when he plays on the PK it doesn't help your +-

it doesn't harm it either, PPGs don't effect +/-.

I think it actually does help it though as SHG count as a +

I googled this last night and found a site that said a goal against while PKing counts as a -, but I'm not sure the legitimacy of it.

I thought they didn't tally anything for +/- on special teams at all.

If you are playing on the powerplay (more men than the opposing team) and your team gets scored on, (the lesser team scores) your team gets the plus and the powerplay team gets a minus. But if the powerplay team scores, neither team gets a + or a -.

You found a site that has no idea what they're talking about. +/- is only impacted if the team scoring the goal has the same number or less players allowed on the ice than the team being scored on.

It makes sense, I just never paid attention to it. Shorty's don't happen a whole lot anyway, so I'm sure it doesn't skew the results too much.

A player is awarded a "plus" each time he is on the ice when his Club scores an even-strength or shorthanded goal. He receives a "minus" if he is on the ice for an even-strength or shorthanded goal scored by the opposing Club. The difference in these numbers is considered the player's "plus-minus" statistic.

Just an interesting tidbit I found. The Leafs are currently the only team in the NHL who are being led in SH ice time by a forward. McClement is second in SH time per game among forwards in the league and one of only three forwards in the top 40.
