Well here we are, after all the doom and gloom last week, a win tonight means first place in the conference.

Go leafs go!

You certainly could see the Leafs kind of pulling out of their slump in the 2 games prior to the Wash game.  Last night was just one of those nights though where everything seems to go right for one team and nothing goes right for the other.  Like our games with the Bruins.

The Leafs need not rest on their laurels of Sat night against the Canes and they need to go for the jugular today.  If they can sit atop the conference and come out with a 12-7-2 record after some of the atrocious hockey we have witnessed them play along with the injuries I would say that is what good teams are made of.

I can see Kessel being gassed for this game. We'll see how it works out...its a good thing we were up so big last night, he only played 3-4 minutes in the third period...

This seems like itll be one of those tough, greasy road games that be a grind to just get 1 point.

Wilson explained that he back his top line off in the third, as not to overwork them, in order to be fresher today against the Canes. It was a smart move, especially with the good lead they had last night. Hopefully it pays off today and they have another big game for us and the Leafs can regain their standing at the top of the conference.

Problem being that he still played about 20 minutes...

Kessel is proving to be a different player this year though so im sure he'll surprise me.

I know Scrivens was supposed to get the start today but after last nights performance by Gus will Wilson ride the hot hand?

I would like to think he would, but with Wilson you never know.

I would definitely give Gus the start. He faced a lot of shots, a lot of them quite good chances and he stoned them cold.

This is a do or die game for the Leafs. We've played almost the most amount of games as anyone in the conference, so its a bit of a misnomer that if we win tonight we'll be safe: we have fewer games in hand so a loss tonight could make the rest of the season look very ugly.

I've tried to be a supporter of Gustavsson when many here wanted to dump him,  :)  8)  :o  but I don't think he should start this afternoon.  Not much time between games and he faced a lot of shots last nite.  And Scrivens seems to better on the road.

You mean he actually coached?

I can see both sides of that argument ZBBMcF, it's one Wilson can't really win should it go wrong - he leaves Gus in and we get pelted, he should have played Scrivens cos of the lack of rest time. He puts Scrivens in and we get murdered, he should have left Gus in after his strong game.

Tonight could be one of those let down games - a short turn around from last night's game, a flight, and a great performance from some unexpected players. We could come crashing down with a bump again.

I'm surprised one of the winningest coaches ever knows how to coach as much as you are!

Nice total lack of effort on the GDT.

I'm getting tired of this. I'm going to go play elsewhere.

I think its a very tricky decision to start Gus... yeah he had the hot hand and was playing with some serious swagger by the end of that game, but do you risk him being a bit tired today and having a bad game?  If he plays and plays well his confidence is going to skyrocket but if he falters he will be back at square one again.

Scrivens has been very good on the road.

Tough choice. Team will be fairly tired no matter what.

There isn?t one player left on current #Leafs roster from Maurice?s last season in TOR.

Meanwhile, Maurice has Harrison, Kaberle, Ponikarovsky + Tlusty in Carolina from his days w/ #Leafs + #Marlies.

plus Tim Brent (didn't play for Maurice)

Phil Kessel is outscoring all five of them combined.

mirtle James Mirtle
Ben Scrivens gets the start and he's 2-1-0 with a 1.96 GAA and .940 save percentage on the road.
