Former Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jay pitcher Mike Flanagan's death was ruled a suicide. Flanagan's body was found outside his home on Wednesday night. He died from a "self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head".
Flanagan led the Orioles to a World Series victory back in
1983 , (having won a Cy Young Award with Baltimore in 1979). In 1987, Flanagan was traded to the Jays and helped them in a memorable pennant race that year.
He, later on in his career, returned to Baltimore, and retired an Oriole.
No cause was given for his suicide other than "financial issues".
Sad. I remember Flanagan as a very well-liked Blue Jay. Of course, in Flanagan's heart, in his own words, he would "always be an Oriole"
