PHI
?Samuel Ersson (19-13-5, 2.61 GAA, .899 Sv%) will likely start for the Flyers
?Philly will be without head coach John Tortorella as he's serving game 2 of his 2-game suspension for "unprofessional conduct directed at the officials" while he was refusing the leave the bench after a game misconduct
?The Flyers have gone just 9-10-2 in their last 21 games and while they're still currently in a playoff position there's a number of teams that are coming up behind them, putting their spot both in the Metro division and in the wild card spots in at least some jeopardy

TOR
?Ilya Samsonov (17-5-6, 3.10 GAA, .887 Sv%) will start for the Leafs
?Toronto will likely be without Mitch Marner for the 2nd straight game after sustaining an injury against Buffalo

Man, I am starting to believe Keefe is a detriment to the team. Those lines are a mess.

Keefe being Keefe.  Can't leave the lines alone for more than 3 shifts...

I don't agree with everything Keefe does but ..

Marner is not there so he has to make some kind of an adjustment

Last game, this line was pretty bad/terrible: Bertuzzi-Matthews-Nylander

So it is understandable that the coach might consider something else. Jarnkrok, like Marner though not as skilled, can distribute the puck, score and play 2 ways. The bigger question now is whether Bertuzzi-2 is a fit ... when Bertuzzi-1 wasn't earlier this season.

This line seemed to work well: Knies-Kampf-McMann

So Keefe's not entirely without reason here.

All valid points and I don't have any issue with changing lines on occasion when things don't work.  My biggest complaint is that there seems to be a lot of line juggling and not just because of injuries or other uncontrollable factors.

Better to experiment now and find what clicks and what doesn't .  Hell the Knies Kamp McMann line just clicked for one game. Lets see if it repeats tonight.

Bertuzzi is kind of lost when there is open space, but excels when there is none (which is opposite to most hockey players!). He flashed some chemistry with Tavares and Jarnkrok previously on a cycle-focused line.

Matthews has worked with Jarnkrok and similar players in the past: Connor Brown and Kasperi Kapanen for short stretches. Jarnkrok is a good match for Bertuzzi's style as the latter tends to free up pucks into slot space and the former tends to hover around those places. Matthews will be incentivized to carry the puck himself in transition more often than usual without Marner/Nylander on the wing.

Domi-Tavares-Nylander might be rough but it's about the same as Galchenyuk-Tavares-Nylander with a faster LW. This line will likely feature 11-88 rush chances off of turnovers, and also lots of DZ time also thanks to their own turnovers. Still, it is important to see Domi on the wing down the stretch to see if his strengths can bolster a top-6 unit without sewering it with his weaknesses.

I think I'd switch Kampf and Tavares actually, to let Kampf do the cardio and let Tavares crush the 3rd line match up with fast, heavy wingers. Kampf has previously worked well with feeding rush wingers.

In any case, each line has someone who will throw down if you want to view it that way.

They also added Dewar

Keefe needs to find out where Bertuzzi-2 fits - he's not the same player as Bertuzzi-1 was

I doubt Kampf is a long term 3rd line center - we'll see

Does playing Domi on the wing help the lines defensively?

They added 2 dmen at the deadline

Does Robertson fit anywhere after Marner returns? How will they keep him in game shape?

Keefe's got 18 games to find out the answers for the playoffs and settle on a starting goalie.

Without Marner there he has to do something. I really don't mind the lines at all. Let's see if Matthews can drive his own line and now we can spread the depth out.

There's certainly downsides to spreading out the depth but being able to run pairs like Matthews-Jarnkrok, Tavares-Marner, and then Domi-Nylander would pose a lot of match-up issues for the other team.

It's also worth noting that Boston and Florida, the Leafs most likely 1st and potentially 2nd round opponents, more often than not spread out their two big forward stars.

Kinda sucks that Benoit got bumped but at the same time who do you bump for him? Brodie? That?ll never happen. Liljegren? Maybe but you kinda want to get him going too.

It feels like this never works on a consistent basis but down the stretch I'd like to see the 11F/7D line-up here and there. If for nothing else just to make sure our other defencemen like Benoit but also Gio or Timmins stay somewhat fresh before playoffs.

Benoit is basically a playoffs rookie. Edmundson is just an older, bigger Benoit that has gone through the playoffs, and the only Cup winner on the roster that did it under our current Defense assistant coach. Benoit is the natural option to sub out.

Rielly and Liljegren all fill niches that have little to no backup. McCabe is the backup Brodie that also needs to be playing. Lyubushkin arguably could be on that list too.

I honestly don't feel bad at all. We need depth and Benoit is depth. Injuries WILL come and we'll need all hands on deck by the end, including Benoit.

I completely forgot about Giordano!

And yeah that would make sense to go with the 11/7 deployment here and there.

Yeah I agree. Just saying it kinda sucks foe Benoit because he really hasn?t dint anything to warrant being taking out of the lineup, but I absolutely understand why.

Benoit bought a bunch of tickets for family/friends to attend the Habs game ... and got scratched. Given the effort he's made, that was kind of tough
